Channel5 analogue signal problems when connected to freeview receiver

    Hi all,

Before I got a freeview box (in August 2004) my Channel 5 (ch37 from Black Mountain) signal was perfect as it was for every other tv in the house.
However since I connected my freeview box to the chain it has decreased dramatically.I never knew what was causing the problem until I plugged the aerial coax directly into the back of my tv and lo and behold, got a perfect ch5 picture again. My tv is the only one affected by this problem despite having another freeview box in the house.
Has anyone got any solution on how to solve this?

(the freeview box is a Panasonic tuct-30)

Well the only thing I can think of is view it through your video channel or run a separate line into your tv for it(aerial plug double adapter)
The latter might affect your DTT though.
Does it happen with just that freeview box?
What happens if you use the other one on that TV?

What channel is the Freeview box outputting its RF signal at?

The RF output is switched off and it is connected via scart lead (and obviously video lead into RF input on tv)

    byte

Have you made sure that the video RF lead isn't the cause of the problem? A lot of those leads are poorly made and can filter out frequencies at will, due to poor workmanship.

And just to follow on from what byte says, the Panny could be emmitting interference even with the modulator switched off, usually the problem lies in the circuit board. A batch of Sky digiboxes a few years ago suffered from this problem.

If you can try and replace the video lead with one that uses CT100 or equivalent cable (the one with copper shielding with the braid outside). If this cures or very much improves your situation then that might be it.

It could also be the case that since C5 broadcast from Black Mountain at a fraction of the power than the other four from Divis do, it might be that since five is your weakest received signal, a noticable difference with the reception on Five may appear first before it happens with any other analogue channel.

On a personal level I now steer well clear of Panasonic Freeview boxes thanks to the company lacking the will to sort out software problems with their boxes except to tell you "Get the next one coming out instead".

I will try it with ct100 patch lead at the weekend and see how it goes.
Btw Northern Corresponsent they mightnt be the best but they are cheap have a decent tuner, a 7 day epg, they dont crash and all text services work (not very fast but they are usable)
So overall it aint a bad box but as for the other box we have a 'Panasonic tuct-20' well now thats another story.

The tuct-30 isn't too bad of a STB, though the tuct-20 is an unmitigated disaster:eek:
