To add someone to your msn list by using their link from a post?

I don’t mind but just wondering if anyone who has their msn/Aim/yahoo id in their details would be annoyed if a stranger added them without asking them first?

well let's put it this way, why are you placing your yahoo ID into a place where everybody can get it if you don't want the to use it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,130 ✭✭✭✭Kiera

Excatly! But would you add someone without asking them first?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

A few people seem to have done this to me. I can only guess it's linked from my profile.

Doesn't bother me all that much, I don't even use MSN much it just signs itself on in the background. Fecked if I'm going to bother chatting to them though.

Do you want them to email you first? What if they added you and asked on msn if it was ok. Would you say no or yes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,264 ✭✭✭✭Hobbes

Dont see why it would be rude. The other person could have permission set to allow you to talk to them and they can easily block you (which will appear as if they are permently offline to you).

I dont have my msn or yahoo msger details on because its a discussion board. Not everyone will agree with what you have to say, and I wouldnt leave myself open to pranksters.

I've become friendly with a few boardsers here, and I've given them my msger usernames directly.

If you dont want to take off your details, add something to your additional info part of your profile somewhere - like:
"please pm first me if you would like to add me to your list"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,082 ✭✭✭Tobias Greeshman

Just ask them on msn if its ok to add them. If you're nice about it, they shouldn't mind. You could always PM them and ask them first before adding them.

i wouldnt id pm them first to ask, generally there gonna say yes, but still i wouldnt want emails/messages from people ididnt know..boards has a lot of members so i took my msn off it, i am friendly with a few people here, and thru pm's we exchange email addys

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,610 ✭✭✭dbnavan

Before someone is allowed to PM you on msn or Yahoo who is not on ur friends list it asks you if you wish to recieve an incoming msg, nobody has ever im'd me uninvited from boards however i wouldnt have a problem with it, if they dont agree with something i have posted or said i will give them a chance to explain why, and possibily discuss the issue(if i have time), if they are abusive i will just hit ignore,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,735 ✭✭✭ST*

    dbnavan wrote:

The problem with that is, all they need to do is create new usernames everytime you hit ignore. thats if they really wanted to p*ss you off.

Like I said, just give it out to people you want to have your username.

I'd find it a little weird if it was someone I'd had no contact with at all, I wouldn't really mind as such but it's not something I'd ever do and I would want to know why. If I was female I'd probably be a bit creeped out by it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,610 ✭✭✭dbnavan

    .

Thats someone with way too much time on there hands, if someone went to that much effort to pi** me off, they'd have extreame problems. Have u seen the amount off c**p msn and yahoo make u do before u get a username now,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭amazingemmet

I had someone from boards put me on her list and im me i didn't know who it was so i just blocked her then i recived an e-mail from said poster saying she'd used blockchecker.com and could see i was online and was demanding to know why i'd blocked her. You do get some crazies here so watch out

i dont particularly like being im'd by people i dont know so havnt included my details. i'd gladly give details thru PMs tho to friends i've made on boards. I dont mind being pm'd by peeps but hate all that 'how u doin, a/s/l??' shoite that i've been getting quite frequently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭amazingemmet

It appears block checker is gone it was a site that you could put in some ones emaill addy and it would tell you if they were online or not. Scraggs its the whole female avatar once you got one its makes you fair game for random pms or so it seems

If you don't want someone to add your MSN details without asking don't have them publically available.

I will give my details to someone if they request them (and I am sure they ain't a nutter or a chuckie!).

Now that I Think of it unless you have disabled the WMF exploit I wouldn't accepting any invites from strangers. supposed to be a patch out next Tuesday for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,805 ✭✭✭Setun

Wouldn't mind so much myself, happened a while back actually. The chap added me to his contacts, chatted for a minute, then left. I think he has me blocked now, it's all a bit weird. Ah well, life goes on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭amazingemmet

Speak of coincidence someone from boards just randomly added me to her contacts. odd eh?

Scraggs: just mention your single and hot randomly and see how strange the pm get then name and shame

I don't see it being rude if you add someone just to talk to them. But if someone's just adding lots of contacts just for the sake of having a big contact list, then probably yes.

i just installed that and AVG popped up sayin it had a virus or trojan rop sumtin wit the crss.exe file. i'd advise to avoid this program.

ive had a few boardsters adding me, but MSN ask's me first, but of recent i do be online and some people say im offline, even when i dont have anyone on my ignore list.
    Does anyone get this fault?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,910 ✭✭✭✭RoundyMooney

I've absolutely no problem with it... :)

Doesn't bother me at all. I've been using MSN since it was realeased and I've only met a small amount of freakazoids! If someone adds you and they annoy you or freak you out, just block them. Simple as that. Unless you're one of these self-perpetuating nonses who bithces about MSN/mobiles phones/whatever 'invading your privacy' but still uses it :D
