Does anybody know why the BBC doesn't relay the full Ceefax service on satellite? Does it take up too much bandwith, or are they just trying to force everyone to switch over to the "red button" services?

Personally I prefer normal teletext, it's generally faster than the interactive services and you can turn it on and off at will without it making your sky box go crazy.

Forcing. IIRC VBI reinsertion takes about 25KB/sec or so, but its been a long time since I read that scary blue DVB handbook on my shelves. They want to be able to get rid of Ceefax in favour of shiney BBCi systems.

Ceefax conversion is good there, Aertel is, erm, cack

http://www.rte.ie/aertel/p101.htm for Aertel online, but it is still there on satellite. and the VBI stream isn't encrypted IIRC, so you can even get it on an FTA box.

Sky box might be awkward. All 4 Irish channels Teletext is fine on a FTA receiver though. Also OK on PC Satellite card.

The Skybox sometimes chokes on Teletext anyway.
