iBook or mac mini?

What would you go for, if you had the choice? The iBook looks amazing and all, but I rarely travel far and I have a good spec Athlon 64 PC I use everyday. It's also quite expensive. On the other hand it would be great to use it in bed and if I do travel, and to show pictures to people I take pictures of.

With the mac mini, it's a lot cheaper, but I'd loose portability. I mainly want a mac because I use them in college and like the OS, and I hope to use Final Cut Pro it in the future.

What would you do in my situation?

I have a mac mini and powerbook, and i have to say i really think the mini is the best mac ever just because of its value and size. Of course it is a mac so you know its reliable. If i was you i would go for the mini and hold onto the rest of the money.

The mini is nice alright, but contrary to that I have a decent desktop machine already plus if I wanted to use the ibook as a desktop i could with a hack, right? So it could be a desktop and a portable...but is that worth the extra 500...

If you had to choose, would you keep the mini or the book?

You already have a desktop so you've just got to make up your mind if you want a laptop as well, or a second desktop. Personally, I'd go for the Mini :) But that's just cos I already have a laptop and am looking for something to replace my 5-year-old iMac.

They just seem right. I mean they're pretty decent machines at a very affordable price (especially if you already have a monitor & keyboard).

was in a similar situation to you (upgrade ibook or get a mac mini) a few months ago and sprang for the mini. its great as i have it working on the same monitor as my A64 gaming pc and so was really cost effective and it also takes up very little space. Since i've gotten it I found i use the mini more and more and only use the pc for gaming and the odd dvd burn.

though having said all that i can't resist the ibook any more and am getting one in a few weeks (yes i am weak :o )
