Recommend a new PSU

Came home tonight after a nice break away in Cork.
Turned on my machine, about to check my email when i hear a loud pop and get a not so nice smell coming from my PSU.

It was an Antec Truepower 380w.
I've had it for about 3 years and it's gotten pretty heavy usage.
So i'll be looking for something in the 400w+ range.
I'd go with another Antec as i've found them to be generally very reliable.

Does anyone have any other recommendations?
Something in the back of my mind is telling me to stay away from Fortron PSUs.

Oh and sound would also be an issue, the Truepower was pretty quiet.
The Thermaltake i'm using at the moment is fairly noisey.

I'll be looking to order something tomorrow i think so any replies greatly appreciated.

but post some specs if you did a lot of upgrades your old 380watt was probably under alot of preassure

Never get a thermaltake PSU, worse than Qtec,


NorthQ are pretty good, not the best built tho, bequiet are good too.

Read the customer reviews - they speak for themselves. Its out of stock at the min but I saw them on dabs.com and www.overclockers.co.uk might have them either.

Its powering my rig below so should be absolutely fine for yours.

The neo 480 is a fantastic psu if you can get it (I heard a rumour that they are end of line now - rumour came from dabs.com)

you can pick up a hiper 580w type r modular psu in pcworld at the mo for 99euro (cheaper than online). It seems to be getting some pretty decent reviews, is really powerful as well as being quiet (and stylish)

have a look at the be quiet range , quality product made in germany with a 3 year guarentee and the best part is that you can collect anything you buy on the same day as they are based in dublin

The cables look fantastic.
Would really keep the case tidy.
The review seemed good too.
Do you happen to know which PC Worlds have them in stock?
Anywhere i've seen them online either don't deliver here or charge £25 for the privilege.

i'm in limerick so it's no good to you but they had one in stock a few days ago.I'd imagine blanchardstown have them in stock as they usually have the best stock levels (i've noticed) why not give a ring, at the very least they'd probably order it for you... number is 0818 20 40 40

next cheapest place i've seen it is pixmania (works out at 116 with 2 day dhl delivery)

I'd forgotten about the PC World in Blanch.
I work close enough to it.
