iPod video delay issues

I think this is a pretty common issue:

after about half an hour, when watching a movie on the iPod, some noticeable audio delay starts to develop and by they end of an hour long show it's bad enough, around 1 second plus.

For 30 minute files it's fine, but I tend to avoid putting anything longer on the ipod.

I use videora and it doesn't bother me too much but I'm just wondering if anyone has found a way to curb this delay problem, using any specific transcoding method or any other program.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Haven't noticed any delay myself. Will watch a family Guy movie to the end and see if I notice any delay.
    I'm also using videora.

Aye, Family Guy is always fine, but when I watch things like Lost and start to notice it past the 30 minute mark, apparently it's a common thing but I'm just wondering if it's to do with the ipod itself or the encoding process, and if someones found a way around it..

Try watching an hour-long show and see if you notice it.

I've noticed this myself. I think it increases if you fast forward. While watching a video podcast it became quite bad so I just paused, pressed menu and un-paused to start watching again. I believe the stifling cleared up as though the video had been given a moment to catch up with the soundtrack. I'm using Videora.

Interesting, I'll have to try that myself, the whole delay thing discouraged me from putting whole movies onto the ipod but I suppose I could just pause and unpause every half an hour :P

I''m not sure if this is a solution but i was having a bit of trouble with sound delay when i first got mine...but changed my encoder to Win.avi's program and haven't seen it happen since. Watch Billy connoly live and eddie murphy raw all the way through without a problem...they're over an hour each. But the first time i encoded Raw (can't remember the software i used) it was all out of Sync. Used Win.avi's program and its fine now.

I have a 30G vidweo pod about 6 months now ,when I bought it first I had all sorts of stuff on it .

But ,I have read that large files absolutely eat the batteries ,i.e movie files are not the friendliest of files to make aquaintance of your Ipod and you should avoid playing back music files of longer than 20 minutes.

Seemingly the Ipod does not like to be active on one read for longer than these periods. Maybe this causes problems ,I've noticed some files cease to be read about 2/3rds through ,no matter how long they have been played for.

This actuallly turned out to be the solution to my problem... recently I've been using Winavi as well and I haven't had any trouble since... I should have really posted that when I found it...

My friends have had similar experiences with theirs...They would have a lot of full movies on their ipods, but I don't tend to put movies on mine as a rule... videos eat the battery up alright, but 120 minute long ones would destroy it... the maximum length would be 1 hour for me... and I'd rarely encode something like that... most of the videos I have now are 30 minute long ones...

I don't bother with movie anymore ,I have some fav adverts thats it.

There is a mix MP3 file i have though that is about 45 minutes long and no matter what I do it stops playing it about 30 minutes through.
Regardless if I fast forward to 28 minutes ,to continue.

I rendered a video of Lost through Videora to put onto my iPod. As soon as I changed it to an MP4, I noticed the lag between the sound and image. This leads me to believe it's something that occurs in the rendering process....

    Hi folks

Has anyone managed to come up with a decent solution for this audio sync problem - are there similar problems with other conversion tools?

    Cheers
