Does anyone know how, or if it's possible to convert .m4a files to .mp3 format?

The .m4a files play fine on my PC(I use iTunes), but my Phillips HDD Jukebox software won't recognize them.

You could try something like this.

    Hi Cal,
    Thanks for replying.

I've just downloaded and installed that. It says that it supports conversion of .m4a files to .mp3s. But when I add any file, it gives the msg:
"The file couldn't be decoded. You may need to download an decoder for it."

...Perhaps the albums have been protected in some way. I don't know the origin of them as I got them from a friend, who got them from a friend of a friend etc....

i think itunes downloaded files are m4a so if they are bought from itunes they would be protected i would guess

If they are protected you won't be able to convert easily.
    Have a look here.

If you have unprotected M4A files (or have made them unprotected through project hymn), in iTunes goto the import section in "Prefences/Advanced" and select MP3.

Just make sure you know where your saving the new mp3's (Usually \My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music)

Easiest thing to do is burn the tunes as an audio CD from iTunes on to a CD-RW and then use a ripper like CDex to convert them to mp3s.

This program works well, I've used it. Eval version allows you to convert 4 at a time...

    Hi

jhymn will crack itunes files and convert them to standard MP3. You will have to use your itunes credentials when using it though. I have used it quite a few times and there seems to be no adverse affects.

Anyone know of a program(free/paid doesnt matter as long as its good) which will convert hundreds(I have a lot of cd's which I converted using WMP9 ~2 years ago) of unprotected *.wma files to *.mp3 files and possible have features to remake their *.m3u files as well as delete the old *.wma files in one go???

Basically Im geting sick of it converting the wma's to mp3's so it can be played on the iPod each time I update the library.

Thanks for any and all help.
