Does anyone have any information on the video iPod such as where you can buy cases for them, and is there any other program to put mp3's on to the ipod instead of itunes as im finding itunes very awkward?

have a look on ebay for cases.
i find the iSock (!?) that came with my 3rd gen model to be just the job...

as for software, the world is your lobster.
at the moment i'm happily using anapod explorer, before that i used the ml_ipod plugin for winamp.
apparently ephpod is rather nifty as well.

    http://www.mediafour.com/products/xplay/

I find itunes the best for this purpose but I've had success with xplay on some friends machines which have 98 and ME. Its a good utility, works on xp also.

I know you are not specifically asking this but, the best software to rip video to iPod is ImTOO iPod Movie Converter

I've used a few programs including "PQ DVD to iPod Converter" and "QuickTime Pro" ... ImTOO is the best.

There's also Videora iPod Converter, a freeware app that worked nicely for me, although I've only used it once so far.

Videora Converter is an amazing piece of software (and free too!) - handles divx/xvid avis particularly well. Have converted a ton of stuff, and all were of exceptional quality and perfect video/audio synch (considering this can be an issue with divx, that's pretty impressive.)

If you are still looking for a case here's a good site for you.
I ordered a iSkin Evo3 Arctic yesterday and I'm expecting it someday next week. I had a small problem with ordering and they sorted it out no bother (a fault on my behalf), the customer service is great.

Lenny, have you added the converted files from the Videora output folder to the iTunes' library (on PC), and then dragged them onto the iPod icon? (That will do it. That said, I use Anapod Explorer. Way easier to add files than with iTunes.) Haven't tried to convert with iTunes yet; I'm half skeptical it'll do the conversions as well as Videora.

As for skins/cases, I have one of these: http://www.zcover.com/zCover_Product_iPod_G5_Original.htm
Protects both the screen (two free covers) and the click wheel.

Also was quite keen on this one, but no cilck wheel protection:

It's the icon that appears on the left-hand side of iTunes (Library, Podcasts, Videos, Party Shuffle, Radio, Music Store, Purchased, [IPOD] etc.) The [IPOD] part will be the name of whatever you've called your iPod. Simply drag the video file (files with an icon that looks like a TV) onto this and they'll appear under the Video menu on the iPod once updated.

I've spent a good while looking around and finally decided to get myself two cases (I know, I know - I couldn't decide) from http://www.xtrememac.com/cases/video/index.php
I'm getting the MicroGlove and MicroShield cases. The MicroGlove for carrying it around in my pocket and the MicroShield for when it goes into a bag with other things. I couldn't find a European stockist so I'm getting them from the US, which isn't cheap, but they look like the best options out there.

I'll let you know how I get on with them.

may aswell keep all ipod video related questions to the one thread..

just wondering what the advantages/disadvantages are of formatting your ipod to either windows or mac?

i've formatting mine with a mac, as i own one, but can't use it as a removable storage device on the windows pcs in college..

should i reformat using a windows pc? are there any disadvantages?
