    I posted this thread a while back but only found a solution today, here!

    Have a look at "Method 2: Edit the registry".
    (The first part of Method 1 doesn't work fully, as I have to re-register every time I power-on :( . Haven't tried the 2nd part yet.)

    Anywho, I found each registry key, and changed the (Default) string to the value shown, however, there was no ThreadingModel string in either key.

    The article says the solution relates to XP and XP Pro. I'm running XP Pro SP2. Should I not be doing this? Or can I just right click and add a new binary data string, giving it the name ThreadingModel and value Both, or is that just plain crazy talk. :o

    The last post on that thread was this -

    Sounds like something has attached itself to Internet Explorer. Download Spybot S&D and Ad-aware. Run both of them and see what they give.
    Don't go near regedit until you have totally ruled out any possible spyware / junk.

    Are you sure you were in the "InprocServer32" part of those keys?

    Yes, it looks like you can just create a new String Value (not Binary Value) and input it manually.
    Right click->New->String value
    Rename it from New Value #1 to ThreadingModel then double click it and change the value to "Both".

    No, I'm not really :o How do I know?

    Unfortunately I went full steam ahead and changed them. My bad. I haven't restarted yet so I suppose I can change them back. I remember what they were. The first had 'JScript Language' as the value data and the second had 'JScript Language Authoring'. Perhaps I should change them back before I reek havoc here.

    I mean are you sure you're not just in:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\CLSID\{f414c261-6ac0-11cf-b6d1-00aa00bbbb558}
    instead of:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\CLSID\{f414c261-6ac0-11cf-b6d1-00aa00bbbb558}InprocServer32?

    It will be on the bottom of the Regedit window, just about the Start Menu button, it will show the path of the registry entry you are in, the last bit should be "InprocServer32"

    I had a look in mine and I have the ThreadModel entry, but it's only in the InprocServer key, and the other ones all have Defaults, might be an easy mistake!

    I was only in the first one, I didn't see the drop down option to go into 'InprocServer32'. Thanks for that!!

    The keys were already correct as it happens so I'm back to square one. As for the other point, I have SpywareDoctor installed on my machine and I've run that several times since and cleaned anything it's found, but no joy.

    I've changed the keys back now anyway so fingures crossed I remembered correctly and the restart won't screw it all up. :D

    EDIT: Oh, I have Spybot too, which I run regularly, again no joy.

    Found this so I reckon I have them put back to what they were. Gonna chance a restart...

    If I don't come back, you know what's happened... :D

    Thanks for the help!

    Wow, I just remembered I downloaded a trial version of Registry Mechanic when I bought Spyware Doctor and I just ran it now. It found 428 errors :eek:

    Man, this laptop is only a few months old. Come back Apple, all is forgiven... :D

    BTW, I dont know what any of the errors mean so I'm not going to pretend I've solved my problem. Anyway, I'm off to reboot...

    that many mistakes is common enough id say. Small things that wouldn't cause too many problems

    I'd be wary of the automatic do everything for you tune up utilities. They can cause more problems than they fix, especially if you do not what you are doing.

    CAUSE
    This issue may occur if one or more of the Jscript registry key settings are incorrect. This behavior may also occur if the Jscript.dll file is missing or damaged.

    Did you check the if the Jscript.dll file is missing or damaged?

    No, well sort of, I think. I mean I can re-register the keys by just doing the following;
    Start > Run > regsvr32 jscript.dll
    Start > Run > regsvr32 vbscript.dll

    and all works fine then, until I reboot and they're gone again. So I presume this means they are present and correct, but just not getting registered automatically on startup somehow?
