Origins of a Painting.

    Hello,

Recently, on a visit to a flea market, I have purchased a newly-framed, unsigned portrait displaying a figure behind which there is a lake and a castle. The painting resembles the portraits of the Italian renaissance, and it seems it really is old. The salesman, however, knew only little of the painting's origins. Any further information would be most welcome.

The painting and close-ups can be seen at http://planet.nana.co.il/avivmaor.

    Thanks for the repliers.

It appears to date from around 1660,more than likely a vanity piece or family portrait, most likely somebody of upper-middleclass merchant stock.Just a guess.

Is it on canvas or panel?

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

its got to be a copy of ....the studio or circle of Hans Holbein the younger, which would be more 1550 in style.
Holbein was a travelling German artist, that painted the noble and wealthy.

i dont actually recognise the painting,.. but definatly in that period costume mid 16th century
