Lidl have 160gb couple weeks ago. But komplette.ie do good ones too. LG is cheaper, I never tried it myself.

Thinking of getting one myself & have been doing some investigation.
Lots of info on different models on avforums.com
More inclined to get one in a shop locally for a few € extra (in case needs to return). So far, in the last week in Dublin I've seen:

    Argos:
Liteon 80GB €305 (catalog doesn't have model no.!)

    Dixons (Jervis)
    LG RH 7500 €319
Toshiba XS-24 €369 (not sure if this is 80 or 160 GB)

    Philips (Dame st.)
    3300h €349

All seem to allow you to pause live TV. Other thing to consider:
    - formats of DVD +/- RAM supported
    - media type supported (mp3, divx), for disk playback
    - as well as pausing live tv, you want "chase back", i.e. skip through bits like ads as you're catching up and "flex time", start watching something before it's finished recording.
    - should also be able to record while watching a previous recording (both HD & DVD).
    - if you have sky or ntl digital, then it gets a bit more complicated, as the tuner is on the sky box, not on the recorder. Some of them seem to have mechanisms that allow the recorder to change the chanel on the digital box.
    - some models also have firewire/ i-link which is used for transferring from video cameras (I think)

pixmania.com also seem to be rated, but I've never used them.

Let me know what you decide!

One of the lads here in work got the LG RH 7500.

It has xvid and DivX support, but one very annoying things is that if you have a program timed to record, you must set the device into standby for the timed recording to start.
So, basically, you can't watch anything you have recorded from the Hard Drive if you want the device to record your programmed recordings.
Have just done a google about this and a lot of people are annoyed at this "feature".
Aprat from that he says it's a great buy.

If you have sky digital are you not better off with skyplus?
    http://www.sky.com/ordersky/equipment/skyplus

Has the recording, pause live tv.

Doesn't have the DVD player/writer, but in addition it does have EPG (electronic program guide), i.e. you can select programs off a nice menu instead of having to program chanel no., start & end time?

As for which player I listed is best, don't know. The LG RH 7500 seems to get a relatively good write up in avforums.com. On the other hand the Liteon is a little cheaper, and I have a €150 voucher I can use in argos!!

Have an LG and can confirm the issue with timed recordings is annoying. However, been able to play DivX files from the hard disk was a must for me so options were limited. All in all, happy with the LG.
