Serious about going to this, yes. A friend and I were discussing it all last night...I mean all of last night...(it's very hard to get into my house at 7am :/ ) If I have the money I will go and I will be trying very hard to get that money in the summer. :)
I have a few friends that have gone to last years one that I must talk to when college starts up again. Some have the wacken band still around their wrist from last year so I'm guessing they enjoyed it...
God willing, I shall go to this and then wait around a few days in germany for M'Era Luna but if I have to choose one of the other, i will look at both line ups.
As for people that don't know anybody going or whatever the reason, anybody that wants to go regardless is welcome along with us to any concert we go to.
Thanks for a place with all the links together.

Yup, I'm going to either Wacken or M'Era Luna, line-up depending.

I really want to go but I might be in Arizona for August but if not I'll try going, definately! It's something I've been planning for years now!

I too have been wanting to go for years, but the lineup has to improve ALOT before ill bother going. Early days yet though

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 28,633 Mod ✭✭✭✭Shiminay

    Maybe...
I've been to Fury Fest for the last couple of years and I did the Ashes to Ashes Holland dates last year too. Was thinking of one of the German festivals this year for a change. All reports I've heard from anyone who's been to any of the big German festivals said they were savage and properly run (Fury Fest is an organisational joke).

Waken line up looks middling so far, it's early days yet of course. I'll definitely be up for something this Summer, the line-up will seal the deal. Did I hear correctly that Emperor were playing at one of the festivals this year?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭Nightwish

yup! Emperor are confimed for Wacken

Went last year with my brother and a couple of his friends and despite not being into metal, it was the best festival I've ever been too. The crowd there are just so cool and friendly and unlike gigs here, the bouncers and crowd control actually give a **** about people's well being instead of being preoccupied with kicking heads.

Going to the JD tent for breakfast though, was a mistake.

Quick, someone get this man a copy of Promethius: The Discipline Of Fire And Demise, it's easily the album of the new Millennium. Hmm, me and Ancient1 will have to pitch in and buy it for you for your birthday, or something. You shouldn't go without such a visionary album.

You can't buy a 1 day ticket, except for the Thursday - see below!

    Ticket WOA 2006 - 2 Day ticket 04.08.-05.08.06 - 66,00 EUR
    Ticket WOA 2006 - 3 Day ticket 03.08.-05.08.06 - 79,00 EUR
    Ticket WOA 2006 - Day ticket 03.08.06 Thursday - 40,00 EUR

To be quite honest anyway, usually the most expensive part is your flight. Once you get there, you can survive on surprising little money. I've gone with varying amounts of cash different years & been grand. You can buy beer & food in the supermarket so as you're not spending tons inside the venue.. Plus if you get there & then have to go home, it'd be a real killer - the atmosphere is brilliant!

Wacken is by far the best metal festival in the world, well organised, good service, great crowd, cheap drink and fantastic bands and well laid out stage times.

been there the last 2 years and have had a blast both times, very cheap too, espcially if you book early, i book most of me stuff around december and get everything dead cheap. i recommend to anyone wanting to go to a festival this year, go to Wacken.

The organisers are decent sound people too, security in 2005 were alot worse than 2004 tho, seen a few bad things but after talking to Holger he said they are making major changes for 2006.

A group of us always go from Donegal but we turn it into a week long drunk fest, 1st 2 nights in hamburg, 4 nights in wacken and another night in hamburg.

oh, and to let ya's in on a wee secert, Sodom are the surprise act.
