    Hey all,
Having a slight problem with my new iBook... seems all the settings are correct, but any computer within my home network refuses to have it's IP resolved. There is a web server (yes IIS, go away) running on one, for example. I can access it by going to http://192.168.11.11, but if I try http://banana, Firefox just brings me to bananarepublic.com. It doesn't resolve when I try to ping it either.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    snappieT

How many computers are on the network? What OS'?
Is there a (dedicated) DNS server?
    Are you using a router?
Can other computers resolve hostnames OK? (what OS)
What media are you using (WiFi,ethernet, etc)?

    Ed:
    OS version on iBook =?
And can it resolve webpages on the WWW without issue?

you might get a better response from MAC :)

Currently 8 computers on the network.
Windows XP Pro, Debian, Ubuntu, Windows Server 2003 Enterprise, and Mac OSX.
    No dedicated DNS.
    Router in use. Buffalo WBR-G54
All other computers resolve hostnames AOK. Haven't tried resolving mac hostname from other computer.
Most computers are wired. Mac & other laptop (Windows XP Pro SP2) connected by 802.11g.
    No problems resolving www pages.

    Thank ya!

And,sorry for all the questions, but here's another anyway... Static IP or DHCP?

Some are on static, some DHCP. The Mac is DHCP, can't connect to any of the other computers.
And don't apologise for the questions, you're helping me!

    erk.

Add an entry to [strike]HOSTS[/strike] hosts (As far as I know, OS X doesn't install/create one by default.. but either way search for one (Backup if one is found), otherwise create )

    *shrug* Support ala MS:)
