Breaking axles .....

I use a Peugeot Mountain style bike for exercising .... 8 miles to 16 miles a day .... 7 days a week if weather permits .... roads are out in the country and vary greatly in quality .... some surfaces are really tough! :(

I've broken one back axle this year and suspect the replacement is on its way out (I remember a strange twitching noise days before tha last one gave up the ghost) ......

    How can I get a decent axle/wheel? ..... do 16" wheels come with different grades/axle diameters? .....

I don't mind paying for a really 'tough' wheel setup ......

Well the wheel is a 26" if its a mountain bike, so dont get a 16" or your bike may start to look like a penny farthing ;-)

There is a huge variety of different types of wheels, hubs and axles and I assume that the last time you had your axle replaced the guys at the shop just stuck in a cheap & nasty axle if its going this soon! They are sometimes tricky to fit correctly as you need to get the spacing etc bang on.

I would suggest that you purchase a decent quality alloy wheel with a good rear hub & axle, I cant suggest a type of wheel as I dont know if the rear sprocket is a cassette type or screw on.

Any way if you want a new wheel at a good price professionally installed PM me and I can give you a good quote, cheaper than the bike shops. Im an ex bike mechanic but still have a passion for fixing bikes in my free time. Let me know.
