Tax Exile

    My situation reads as follows:

I'll shortly be taking a job with a Swiss based subsidiary of a French company doing oceanographic survey work all over the globe. I'll be at sea for 6 months plus every year for at least 3 years, at most i'd only be in Ireland 5 months a year.

Now clearly I don't want to pay tax to anybody, but I was wondering if anybody knows what I'm legally obliged to do?

The person you really need to speak to is a tax consultant but I'll take a amateur stab at it.

If you sign out of the Irish tax system and you're not spending more then six months (183 days or in that region) in Ireland you're not liable to be tax in Ireland. How ever what you should look at is in where your money will be paid to (country that is) and they might be deducting tax for you in that country.

I smell a scam, to be honest. Tax man usually sends out letters. Any chance of details where the email came from, and if you click the "reply" button, what email address does it say in the "To" box?
