    Hey,

Im preparing for a college exam I have this Wednesday, and im slightly confused with some of the notes I have, and I was hoping that someone here could point me in the right direction.

Learning about the CPU, I can discuss what it is, where it goes, about the heat sync etc. but as for components of a CPU - I only have discussed (in my notes given by the college) about the Control Unit and the Arithmetic Logic Unit and how ram is closely associated with it but technically not a part of it. I looked at some of the results Google gave, but im still confused - what else should I know?

I have a good diagram I got in secondary school for computers which shows how the CPU works so that goes towards it also I guess.

    Another aspect of my notes I find confusing is with networks. I have a discussion on LAN, WAN, and MAN networks and also have a discussion on LAN Topology's - but under that heading I have the following types discussed;

    Bus Network & Ethernet Network.

But then I have more notes on something that has me confused:

    Star Network
    Token Ring Network.

So, does that mean I have four topology's or just two? Thats got me really confused, espicaly when Google gave me a completely different list of topology's!

Any help on this is really appreciated, thanks a lot.

Trying to figure this out still lol.

Im presuming the three most popular LAN topologys are:
Bus Network & Ethernet Network as one. (They are both fairly similar.)
    Start Network
    Token Ring Network.

That makes some sence I guess.

As for the components of the CPU, I do have notes as an introduction to what the CPU is and then it goes on to talk about the Control Unit (CU - Fetch, Execute, Decode, Writeback etc) and Arithmetic Logic Unit (does Arithmeitc and Logic, arithmetic being simple maths and logic being greater/less then, equal to etc) and also Resistors which is a type of memory it seems.

Anything im missing? >< This is just from my notes, Google gives more info and names but thats got me confused so I was hoping someone here could be of assistance.

    Cheers ;)

It can be a little confusing because the terms aren't directly comparable, a star network may be a bus network, but not nessecarily and so on. Wikipedia's Network Topology category explains it better than I can. They should have good CPU section aswell, or another place to look for more of a laymans explanation would be www.howstuffworks.com
