Hangover aside, i feel like crap today...runny nose, stuffy head, sneezing...bah!

There's my little rant over..who else is sick and what's your best cure?

Yup. For about the past 4-5 weeks I have had a non stop runny nose, sneezing and everything else.

Taking Lemsip, Sudafed, Actifed and vitamin tablets. Can't shake it at all.

Ease up there sunshine, you shouldn't be taking all that for 4-5 weeks regularly:eek: Get 2 lemons, cut them into slices, get a saucepan fill it with cold water, put it on low and let it on the hob for about 40 minutes. Also, you're body only takes maybe 10-15% of the goodness from synthetic tablets. Get some Spirulina and take it every day as recommended.

garlic, echinacea, water and fresh fruit - oh and chocolate! lots of sleep and a comfy couch. I'm pretty much over my flu but not risking leaving the flat - so cold out there!

Been dying for the last 5 days finally starting to come back to life. Just in time for work LOL!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Echinacea is really only for clearing out your system, say after you've taken anti-biotics. That and live yogurt is good:) You shouldn't take it for more than 3 weeks at a time either. Fresh fruit of course:) And vegetables, steamed if possible as it keeps in more goodness.

So taking panadol, anadin, and the odd bit of zantac isn't a good mixture either

Hmmmmm.... Time to detox my body before it fails.

Yup, been sick for the past few days with the flu. All the headaches etc are gone but my voice is still gone! Been drinking plenty of hot drinks and sucky sweets and trying to rest my voice. Not coming back to me! I haven't had my voice for 3 days!

Owe it all to my complete lack of anti-biotics :D.

It depends who you come into contact with I reckon... whenever I have a job where I'm on packed public transport regularly, I get about five colds throughout the six months of Autumn and Winter, and one or two through Spring and Summer.

    My cousin swears by this

Get a towel, run it under cold water and then squeeze it until it is damp.

Put it on top of your pillow and sleep on it.

    I'm not so sure,

Had a temperature of 101 on St. Stephens day. I could have kept a family of four warm with the radiation off meself.

Still not feeling great, but that could be from the Shiraz last night!! :)

Yeah, I feel sick now. nothing NY celebrations or flu related.
My new delightful foreign neighbours have decided to burn all their holdiay refuse out the back garden, and it has fill my house with an awful stench of smoke. :v: bleeurrrrgh

He's a bit of a prick, to be honest.

At a party in his house some guy crashed out on the sofa. The cousin put the damp towel as described underneath the guy's neck.

He ended up with a horrendous crick in his neck.

I should, you are probably wondering why I havent already..
The house was a rental before these new neighbours. I'd a 3 year stint with some Romanians before them. and my jesus were they bad. But these ones are permenant fixtures. im just reluctant to go down that road again :(

Me too, sucks! best thing I found for sore thorats over the years is to gargle with warm water and salt. better than using Antibiotics but you need to catch it early, didn't get around to doing it in time this year due to 3 nights of partying....ahhh well I'm only young once!

Tonsilitis and a chest infection. Had it for about 4 days but it's been coming on for about a week before that. Clever me did absolutely nothing about it.

Went to the doc and got some anti-biotics (good ol' penacillin(sp?), pills are huge though) which are kicking in. Tonsilitis has transferred itself to my sinuses now which is more annoying than anything. Cough still kills but it's easing up.
First time I've been sick during winter in years, never even got a cold. That always happened during summer for some reason.

Although on the plus side (well, evil side) I've given it to 3 people. Ha! Although they only developed my cough and the cold bit. If I've to suffer...everyone will!

I've had to inform my mother that I've got a nasty tummy bug that I've heard is going around. There's no other possible reason for my getting sick after every night out and sloughing around the house all day doing nothing! :D

That always happens to me... Every time I ring in sick I get really sick about a week later... Its horrible, happens without fail everytime... But in a way I dont mind because my employer is very good to me so I always kinda feel Iv paid my dues so to speak :o

I've got some sorta flu-like something also. Hot & cold, no energy, constantly thirsty, running nose, sneezing, coughing etc.
Reason I'm sure is my insistance to go to Dundrum on Thrusday without coat so it's easier to get around the shops and try stuff on. Never shopping in winter again. Or maybe I'll get a car, but I'll never wear a jacket whilst shopping.

I started sniffling yesterday... I have no idea how, but now I'm so bunged up and I feel like my eyes are being pushed outta my head, I'm feeling so miserable and I want a cigarette, but I'm trying to give them up....

(can you tell I feel sorry for myself?)

Know the feeling. Exact same here, one thing I find though is that its more bearable with a window open etc, having the heating on makes it worse! :(

No sickness this year but previoys three years usually lasts around three weeks at christmas. I'm convinced that the body knows it's the end of the year and is time for a bit of a break

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

Not really sick... just the usual low-level cough that tends to stick around for most of the winter.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,857 ✭✭✭✭Dave!

I feel like sh!t... stuffy nose, eyes burning, phlegmy throat... I was fine yesterday, I think it's all the dust being raised in my room last night (I cleaned it)

Stick with it Dizzyblabla, this is probably cold turkey from not smoking, exactly the same happened to me, it will pass in a few days..then you will be dizzy for a few days (extra oxygen getting into your blood..) ..the real Dizzyblahbla ;)

Don't give up so soon, the fact you are getting this means you are actually making progress well done!

The flu is a virus which you can contract any time of the year.
