Looks like the lovechild of Dustin & Liberace.

But, it's 3:45 am and i've been on the sauce so I might have a different opinion later.

Looks like it's got hair growing out of it's right eye... some bird though..

    Hmm. Critique you say.

Suppose, as far as composition goes, I think the bird is too central in the picture. You've got all this space around the head which is.. essentially, just nothing. This could be compounded by the fact that the background is basically plain black with a couple of deviations.

So, if the background is plain black, you'd be concentrating solely on the bird so you'd want to have more of it in the photo. Or, if you just want its head, you need to zoom in/get closer to it, so it takes up more of the frame.

However, if you want this much background, you'd want to have something in the background for the eye to be, at least, a little, interested by. Maybe just more greenery or somesuch. It can still be out of focus, just... plain black.. well, if someone wants to see that, they can stand in a dark room.
In the case of having a background being the secondary focal point of the image, I think the bird should be pushed more to one side of the image. (Google "Rule of Thirds" for a better explanation of why) And, in this case, probably the right hand side since it's sort of.. looking left anyway, so it'd just look better.

That said, I think because the bird is so brightly white, it could look pretty good with a plain black background, you'd just need to make the bird a lot larger in the frame. (And possibly take a portrait shot as opposed to landscape, just 'cause birds tend to be taller than they are wide, and you'd get more in that way.)

Anyway. To finish rambling about composition, and because it's almost 5am and I need to sleep, did you use film with this? Just mildly curious.. and what kind of settings/camera/lenses and all did you use?

Also, what kind of a bird is that? =P
