    Anyone know anything about these?
My aunt has an old one and wants to know if it's worth anything, I tried Google but it didn't turn up anything.

You didn't give him much to go on either. LP copy? acoustic? classical?

Your google-fingers must be broken, because I typed in 'kimbara guitars' and got 29 pages of hits.

They look to be priced just under cheap Yamahas...in other words, not worth much, but might play ok.

Another quote from Harmony Central -
    HC wrote:
Apparently Kimbara imported Japanese guitars into the UK 1969-1990, and since 1995 have been bringing in a limited quantity of Chinese-built instruments.

Another article I read said they were originally made by Fresher Guitars of Japan and sold as Kimbaras in England.

God that name rings a bell. I once bought a high end yamaha acoustic off a guy in Westport and i remember him saying he had a Kimbara acoustic and didn't need anything else.

Sorry, yeah I typed Kimbara Guitars and only got two hits, one was a cancelled site and the other was someone on a Nirvana board doing the same as me!

It's an accoustic alright, plays very nice but that's all I know about it, I was just trying to find out, she wanted to know after I told her my accoustic is worth a few grand.

    Thanx anyway!

It may be nice but its not worth what you think it is for sure.

I've had it looked at by professionals and it's worth a fair bit, and the electric is worth a bit too. '85-ish, Japan made Fender Squire Stratocaster

An 85 Japanese strat is worth about €500

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Le Rack

Yeah, I dunno I've had different quotes on that one, it was bought in 85 but I'm not sure what year it was made, probably the same but sure!

Do you mind me asking how much you were quoted for the acoustic?

two grand-ish depending on the market and stuff

Bull**** I'm afraid. Unless you can tell me the model? I'm not aware of anything Fender made in that era being worht that much, acoustics wise.

The squire would not easily fetch €500 but you would get it eventually. Depends completely on condition and how many parts are original. it would have to be pretty good now to be reaching €500.

bran new condition, all original parts, bar the strings obviously, not the slightest mark.

This was a low cost model from Fender and hasd no vintage vlaue. It may sound nice but whoever told you it could fetch a couple of grand is wrong. I'd say it would fetch a couple of hundred quid max. Say €300. I really would not know for sure without playing it but somewhere in or around that figure. Probably lower to be honest. Unless it has a celebrity or famous musician linked to it I can''t see there being any interest. Not worth what you think it is at all.
