How can I prevent my hair curling?

Hey guys, story is I'm trying to grow my hair long. I haven't had my hair cut in about 4 months so it's getting there but there's one big problem and that is my hair curls ridiculously at times.

If I leave my hair avoid water for 3 days or so my hair will be perfectly straight and will look well but if I have a shower or out in rain and my hair gets wet my hair curls everywhere. It's so annoying that I've been cursed with this type of hair! I'm about to give up and get my hair cut short again which is my last resort tbh.

So I'm wondering is there anything at all that I can do to avoid this as my hair gets longer and more curlier? Any products or techniques? Please don't mention the obvious hair straighteners, I'm a bloke, admit to using them once off my sister but they're not good for my hair!

    Thanks :)

Cut them off. Thats what I did, just went down to a hair place in Blanchardstown and had them cut out. Couldn't stop them otherwise, without looking like a woman. I was curl free for about 6 months, then they came back again, and I had them chopped again. 4 months in the clear now and they're in danger of coming back again - we'll see...

Maybe you should just grow an afro...

Blow dry it straight, or just use a straightener, don't avoid something on a homophobic basis. Also don't wet your hair in every shower you take, maybe wash your hair twice a week and blow dry it/straighten it after. A small bit of hair gel can help keep your hair under control also.

But man, you've only been growing it for 4 months, if you're growning it long you do know that you simply have to put up with it being puffy and basically looking shíte for about a year before it's long enough to look good.

Get it chemically straightened, its about 85euro in the Grafton Barbers and around 140euro in salons like Toni&Guy, will be pin straight until the roots grow long enough to curl(a few months)

I'm female and my hair is pretty short, and so when it curls while drying, it looks awful. Just blow drying it - not even using a brush while doing so, just brush it after shower then blowdry - makes it go straight. If that won't work, just use a straightener. As long as it's not pink, you'll be fine

Even though that is tempting, I have done that before by myself but from experience that left my hair uneven in length and looking a bit arseways. It's only the hair around my ears and at my neck that's curling so that's why I probably wouldn't do that.

I have grown it to say Liam Gallagher/Ian Brown length before so I know the torment it can be but I did give it up and shaved it due to it looking crap up most of the time (apart from when it was straight), big regret. I may give the hair gel a go on it again to see if that works but I hate it's greasy look tho'.

Both of my sisters have the same natural hair type as me wavy brown hair but they've put so much chemicals like colours and crap like that in their hair I can't go by them now. I think if I asked them to teach me how to blow dry hair I'd get unbelievable stick!!!

And on that point I don't have any notion how to blow dry (I'm a bloke so it's not very surprising :v: ) so I might rule that one out. If anyone could give a brief description I might give it a shot if I get desperate.

    Thanks a million anyways. :)

Go get the Straight hair styling gel by Bumble and Bumble. Wash your hair and towel dry it a bit. Follow the directions on the product tube and distribute it through your hair. You can let it air dry, or blow it dry. Blow-dry is probably best using a flat paddle type brush in your case. You could visit a salon once and get them to show you some blow dry techniques. Just a suggestion, and no stick from your sisters. Next thing you know, they'll ask you how you did it. :)

    Blowdrying 101:

    Wash hair.
    Towel dry said hair.
    Plug in hairdryer.
Turn on hairdryer to a hot setting.
Brush hair whilst aiming hair dryer at it.

It's not too hard. That'll get it fairly straight. You can get defrizzing creams, sprays and whatever else too which will mean that you need to spend less time and effort on blowdrying as I find on my lazy half as$ed blowdrying sessions I need to straighten afterwards to get rid of frizz.
