I says its a BMW 5 on the site , and my friend believes it. I am close to 100% sure its another car and could bet my money on it, i know what it is so i just want to see if you people also recognise it.
SO what do you think it is?..

Not an M5 anyway. I don't see any side grills on it, wheels are wrong aswell. About the wheels, I don't think they are the originals from this car, they look like an after market add-on, very big.

The shape of the headlight socket is whats getting me, looks very familiar.

Look at the side of the lights on this 2000 A8, they're not the same as the car in the pic.

well , i think i know what car your thinking about....VW Paheton?? .....thats what i thought thought too but im 99.9% its an A8 , the light socket might just have been disfigured a bit

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Yeah deffo not a BMW, the alloys are too stylish :)

Older A6 maybe although from memory the wheels look very much like my neighbours old A8

I think the year on that ad is a mistake. I'm open to correction but 'M' regs were out around 1995/96.

Its an older 5 door saloon Audi for def. Probably an A4?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭masteroftherealm

Has anyone seen Ronin? Those alloys were on the audi s8 that was in the movie!

The front arches on that A4 dont look as flared either.. :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,575 ✭✭✭junkyard

    I'd say its a 1995-6 Audi A6.

A Blankety Blank Cheque book and pen to the first person to solve this with picture evidence.

    An Audi A6 - no doubt !

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭astec123

It is an audi 80, look at my reference image as I take you through it.

    http://www.audiclub-braunschweig.de/fzg/lippelt/clubfz1.jpg

Look at the arches, they are slightly flared as was the trend in the day.

Next look at the rear lights, you can see in the crashed car that the rear lights sweep around the rear quarter of the car.

The front lights, you can see the parts for the long thin side lights if you look closely.

Now all this leads me to think it is a later model, certainly not a first series model.

This is an image of the 3 door http://www.fireringar.com/Coupe%20quattro%2020v.jpg
note the side bumper plastics are the same and as was the style of the car the plastics went larger ever so slightly at the rear.

Other points to mention are the other lights are audi and look to be 80 ones with some of those stupid extra fogs and that the door handles are the same.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,463 ✭✭✭KTRIC

Saying its an Audi A6 / A8 , then agreeing with yourself doesn't make it right. Picture evidence please.

The lights on this car sweep up at the side. The A8 / A6 or whatever sweep down.

I seen your last post. You didn't prove what car it is

The lights are not the same.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,575 ✭✭✭junkyard

Using your photos K-TRIC, sorry couldn't be bothered downloading photos at this hour, note the door mirror on the A6 is built into the corner of the door on the wreck photo but the mirror on the Audi 80 is bolted on to the door skin plus the wrecked car is too sleek for an A4 and the front wing is too long for either A4 or 80.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭astec123

Sorry I change my mind, it has to be a 100. The only audi with the wing mirrors as before mentioned.

    http://www.autokatalog.ru/image/audi/audi_100_2.0_e-1990-46-5681L.jpg

Exact same profile same era and parts that are about the place match, remember the fogs etc can be aftermarket add ons.

    Same design as before

    Same later added fogs

    http://www.autonib.com/Poderzanie/Audi/100/2_8_quattro_4A/auto/Audi_100.jpg
Plastics as I mentioned before when I said the 80, never even thought of the 100.

    http://www.norskbildelsenter.no/audi/skadebil/a100_92.JPG
Rear lights are the wrap around sort.

    http://www.norskbildelsenter.no/audi/skadebil/a100front.jpg
As seen here they dont appear to be orange from the front angle.

Anyway that enough to prove it?

Sorry to burst your bubble here guys but the only difference between an Audi A6 and an Audi 100 was down to the headlamps the bumpers and the grille, of which there are none to be seen on the wrecked car. The body shell is exactly the same, so I can't tell the difference and I'll bet ye can't either, plus the wheels are only add-ons.:)

Actually the A6 has a rise in its window profile from front to back the 100 didnt. The back end was more rounded and as for the lights, well even smashed ones can be identified.

A lowly reference image of an A6 this time.

It has to be a 100 as the 100 didnt have any real flare on the rear arches the a6 did.

Bang on, I knew I recognised those lights from somewhere. I've had my eye on a 100 for a while.

the 80 and 100 are so gorgeous!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,376 ✭✭✭Squirrel

I don't think it's a 100, the wing mirrors are too rounded. I think it's an A8, look at the rear, from the bootlid to the C-pillar looks more like it's off an A8 than a 100

I'm not even sure it's an Audi the more I stare at it. The seam running along just above the door handles seems a lot sharper and not as rounded as the A6/100 or A8.

IT is definitely an Audi...I just can't decide whether it's an A8 or A6.....pretty sure it's an A8 though

    A8

    Audi-A8-078.jpg

Good detailed one there, note the trims are different, side plastics are missing on the back in the above one but the original car has rear plastics.

    http://www.dieselstation.com/wallpapers/Audi-A8/Audi-A8-037.jpg

Those saying that the image of the totaled one has different mirrors if you look closely it appears to have no cover on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

i suppose the one thing we're certain of that it's not a BMW

Actually the above photo is of the MkII Audi A6 which was launched in 1998.

The MkI Audi A6 was just a facelifted version of the last Audi 100 and was launched in 1994.

I'd agree with astec123. The light in the picture exagerates the shoulder line similar to the picture below. Also the wing mirror in the picture below is a closer match to the crashed cars offside mirror methinks.
