Paris for 2 nights in early January -- on the cheap!

    Hey guys,

Here's the story: my girlfriend suggested to me yesterday that we go to Paris for my birthday (well, a few days before it). I thought that it was a bit extravagent and would cost way to much, but she's under the impression that it would be cheap enough to fly over, and her parents would be able to find cheap accomodation (they go often enough).

I'm looking on Ryanair, and the flights seem to be costing around €180, and on ratestogo.com, accomodation is different prices.

I'm sure a few of you go to Paris alot, and would have some insight into this.

Basically what I want is, cheap flights, and cheap accomodation in a decent area in terms of getting to the eiffel tower, the river seine, etc.(doesn't have to be a fancy hotel, just somewhere to stay that's not a hostel), for 2 nights in Paris from about 6th - 8th January.

Thanks to anybody that can help!

P.S., I know that there's a million + 1 Paris threads, but this is more specific and I don't have time to go through them all!

P.P.S., I only have about €300 in the bank at the moment! I'm only working part-time since 2 months ago, and Christmas is just gone, so I'm a little broke -- which is why I want to get everything as cheap as possible! Would I be able to get by with less than that for 2/3 days? We wouldn't be going out to fancy restaurants every night or going on shopping sprees, just enough for food, transport, boat ride, maybe Disneyland... :o

can't help you with cheap accomodation as I've only ever stayed in hostels or a friends hotel (which I get free, but usually costs a bomb) or a friends place.. I'm flying over on the 20th Jan but I booked about a month ago and my return flights with Aer Lingus (gag I know) were only EUR80 including taxes. Also Ryanair doesn't fly directly into Paris but some airport about an hour out of town!!!!
check out hostelworld.com - they do hostels/guesthouses and hotels.. otherwise hotelclub.com

Good luck with the flights though!

try Le Relais de Marais, it was the best value I could find last time I was there. great area if you like old Paris (the Marais). Ryanair is fine, its as handy as aer lingus (flying to cdg) by the time you get into town. €300 won't cut it though.

The cheapest flights you'll get off Ryanair are about 50 euro return and then it's 26 euro each on the bus from the airport to the centre of Paris. The cheapest hotel that I've stayed in Paris was 35 euro a night per person not including breakfast. There are cheaper ones but they're a fair bit out and not exactly in the safest areas. So, that's 150 for the flights/bus and 210 for the hotel so 300 would really be cutting it.

We decided not to go... I just can't afford it! We'll just wait til the summer and go away then.

    Thanks for the replies everybody!

    Whaaa??

It could well be 26 euro for both return. IIRC it was 10 euro one way.

Try going one way with ryanair, the other with aerlingus. It can often work out cheaper or give you better choice of times.

But I agree 300 euro is cutting it fine.

The bus journey from Beauvais Airport to Paris cost €13 each way. It jumped from €10. Nothing like a captive audience !
On my first trip I paid €80 for what I thought were 4 return journeys. Trouble is I only got 4 single tickets and did not realise this until I got on the bus for the return journey. Got no satisfaction !
