One of my friends is leaving for the States in a week or two and we want to get them something for their time over there.
Trouble is, she owns most things already. We're going to get her a pair of webcams (one for here, one for home) but we want to get her something else as well.

    Any ideas?

my sister moved to Australia about 6 weeks ago and I was stumped as to what to get her, so I got her a proper case for all her travel documents and books/puzzle books for the journey

The weather is alot colder there at the moment, maybe she could do with some warmer clothes? I've a friend just back from NY, and she said they are really into their fashion over there. Maybe a voucher for clothes, Is that kind of what you are thinking

*If so, she will get more for her voucher if she shops now. sales and all!

Give her a stockpile of the Irish stuff she likes. Like Barrys tea (because its hard to get tea outside of UK/Ireland)

Thats a really good idea, my friend missed alot of stuff here. I've also some family over there too, and they are the same.
It has a personal touch to it too :)
I've some english friends who visited, and they ask me to send Barrys over to them from time to time!

Barrys tea and Tayto.. that stuff is like cigs in maximum wing of a prison over there :)

Although I would check with customs first beforehand in case they take them when she gets over there.

Chocolate also, as the stuff over there is horrible. (tell her to checkout Treasure Island Stores where they sell food from all over the world). Also maybe a photo of all of ye together in a frame would be nice. Or a mixed cd of songs she's likes. Stuff of irish and UK artists as they are very much into R'nB over there. I know when I got home from living in the states I was glad to hear abit of Girls Aloud! :o lol

When I was going to Australia my mates got me an inflatable sheep. Poor bastard didn't even make it to the club we went to:(
Anything you get her will just weigh her down and take up valuable space in her bag. And clothes here will not be cool there. Cash fits right in the pocket and everyone likes you when you got money.
A good idea is space bags, it saves so much space in your bag but it sounds like ye're all yuppies and would like to flash your cash a bit more. Just buy space bags and send me the change.

We've made a habit of going to a small jewellery store on Wexford Street (in Dublin) called Djinn and getting jewellery for almost every present we've had to give anyone this year.. some excellent peices in there, and they're not too expensive so she won't have to worry about insurance and jewellery is extremely easy to carry/pack.
