Bought by Easons, who knows what they've got planned. Extension to Easons, or their own low cost branch.

    Serious? Ah fucck...

Where now for cheap magazines? Nowhere... the north, I suppose.... Easons will charge their own normal rates for magazines. Easons are a damn monopoly now...

Hope they keep the copying centre open - 'tis a lifesaver.

Bought by Easons? I wonder is it because they were pissed off with all the €x cheaper than easons signs?

Its just good business, for Easons. Buy the competition.

    CHRISTMAS OPENING TIMES

    CLOSED 25\12\05 - 2\01\06
    OPEN AS NORMAL FROM 3\01\06

Does seem a bit weird.... perhaps a small refit going on?

I meant the store being closed for such a period being a bit odd... given it's also a newsagents.
A store refit was the possible explanation I gave.
Can't remember it being closed during this period in years gone by.

Since its just been bought by easons that would tally with a rebranding/refrub etc.

Possibly! Because a day or two after the take over was announced, all those signs in Reads with Easons written on them were removed

Sorry, I couldn't resist! It'll be a shame to see Reads go - as they always seemed to stir things up in the bookselling market (they were the ones who caused the fourth Harry Potter's price to be slashed, for instance). I suppose it'll be H&F for me now!

In town they were really the only low cost alternative... i dont think anyone would see Hodges Figgis or Waterstones being discount stores. Its certainly a good deal for Easons as i would believe Reads would have been making a nice profit in recent years.. Id also wager that they may leave it as "Reads" to give the illusion of choice in the market and also because we asscoiate Reads with good value and low cost copying.

    I've a €50 voucher for Reads...reckon it'll be valid for Easons now?!

i used to enjoy going to the copying center, easons will probably hike up the prices...

Wouldn't really make sense, didn't they just move location a few months ago (well, about a year now).
It must be a change in brand or something major like that.
Which part of it is closed, the newsagents or the copy place, or both?

If it is easons I wonder if they'll keep the copying going or what. It wouldn't make much sense to keep the newsagents, though. It's so close to the other bigger easons.

Reads were really the best place to get magazines. Easons are the largest wholesaler for magazines in this country, and they fix their costs accordingly twice a year, with the rate against Sterling.

Take my regular buy... What Satellite and Digital TV. UK price... £3.99.
    Easons price: €7

Lets break this down a wee bit...
£3.99 is at todays rate €5.79... factor in VAT @ 13.5%, this comes to €6.57
    Bit of a markup?

I was getting it for around €6.40 in Reads...

Reads tried to break that monopoly... and look what happened.

But but there are still ads on fm104 the whole time, with the the man talking and the people cheering and if the people are cheering they must be happy because its still reads and not easons. Thats my theory. :)
