Trinity Student Cards...

    Hey there guys,

I was just wondering why we don't have our date of births printed on the card? That means we can't use it for official I.D. - unlike the students from DIT and UCD, Dublin (;) ) who have their DOB on their cards and can get into nightclubs etc with them...

    Any special reason?

Probably for the reason you just stated - it's a college id, not something you should use to get into nightclubs. This stops any possibility of ill will towards the college if a bunch of students use their student cards to get into a pub and then proceed to get drunk and wreck the place. TCD has a reputation to uphold, you know, not like those other 2 uncouth colleges you named :D

Why be afraid if you have nothing to hide? I thought Trinity students upheld the spirit of Trinity wherever they went ;) ?

As barry said, its a college ID and not designed as a form of legal identification.
Your college ID card has a yellow bar under your photo, if this bar extends across the full face of the card, it means your under 18. This is for the benefit of the college bars.

The only type of ID that a place serving alcohol should be accepting is a Garda National Age Card, Passport, or Driving License or in the case of a refugee their Dept. of Justice Issued ID Card/Document.

What colour do we reckon they will be next year? Could they get any worse? Is it on a rotation of colours???

I'm hoping for beige or vomit brown. Mainly because I won't be there to have one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,523 ✭✭✭ApeXaviour

Unfortunately I will be, going into my 5th year here

Then guess what? Yes I will likely (pending any better offers) stay for another four years.. that's right! Anybody hoping to usurp my position on these here boards, you can screw that thought right out the window I'M HERE FOREVER MUWAHAHAWAHAW

    Oh and btw:
I heard from an undisclosed source that next year's card is going to be purple.

God forbid they might be white...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,314 ✭✭✭Nietzschean

i dunno i'd say i hope for something worse next year since i won't be there, but is there much worse than pink in fairness?

On that note, I just turned 18. How do I go about getting a card without the full yellow stripe?

Just go to Student Records, in house 5. You'll get a new card then, free of charge.

On a slightly related note, I'm currently on my 8th card.

They always have a boncer after 6 in doyles. not always at the door.

The cards are on a 6 year or so rota and the colours just change like that. I remember all those colours.

you should be able to choose your own background for the card. obviously something that wouldnt interfer with any important bits on the card, but the ability to express one's creative side would be nice.

some girl doing my course thought she was great exclaiming "oh look. nurses get pink cards"

    I corrected her.

Lose them often, or can TCD just not get rid of you?

A good tip: Never try to cut through cardboard with your student card. It WILL snap and you WILL get locked out of the Hamilton building and laser huts at 3 in the morning with no way home. The end.

What are the colours? And d'ya know if there's a particular reason for this or anything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,579 ✭✭✭Pet

I'd imagine it's to make it easier for security to identify old cards..

Sorry, should have specified; why the particular colour set? As in why pink, why orange.

It's not offical ID of any sort. Clubs and Pub can do what they want, I've got past bouncers with my trinity ID.

also there is a little yellow bar on the ID's of underage students, for the pav and the buttery.

You may as well ask why the sky is blue.. Because the angle of the sun only refracts a small wavelength range of visible light spec.....

You only get your DOB printed on a UCD student card if you're under 18.
