I shot a few pics in the park a few days ago with my 20D and due to crap light and no tripod, I upped the iso to the max on the camera. 3200 I think is the max on the 20 although it's just called high in the settings. I know great results would not ususally be expected at this setting on a digital but I had read elsewhere that the 20D was petty good even at 3200. Well I was surprised at how bad it was, even at a normal 25% view on my monitor I can see what looks like extra large pink grain in the pic, the image below is a 100% crop from the picture.Have any other 20D owners noticed this.

Use the grain to your advantage. Either convert it to black and white or soften or blur it.
Grain looks really great, it's only a matter of using it properly!

that large pink grain looks more like a van, behind those trees to me

seeing as how there is no colour film equivalent of 3200iso, what you get at 3200 is still pretty amazing

Thats a car or something behind a tree. BTW technically you only get grain on film not digital. Call it noise or artifacts or whatnot but it aint grain

I knew it was called something, no not a car or van, i'm talking about the hole image here. I agree, grain (or noise in this case) can add to a photo, when intended, particularly in mono, I had just expected the 20D's noise/grain/artifacts to be not so obvious. And what's this neat image you have on yer desktop rymus.
PS, My 20d manual is in German, can anyone tell me how to access shooting in B+W.

Under the menu options scroll down to parameters, the B&W mode is after 'set 3'.

If you shot in RAW you can convert in the same way post event using Digital Photo Professional. Alternatively convert to b&w on Photoshop.

The in-camera filters are worth a play with in b&w as well, in particular the red filter can give a slight infra-red appearance (although nothing pronounced as using an infra-red film).

Convert to B/W afterwards using the channel mixer of your favourite image program. Gives you a lot more control over how the image comes out!

I usually do Donncha, just wondered what the 20D did it like. Actually I sometimes use a neat tool called optik verve, gives the choice of lots of different tones in B+W and colour, it can be got here free.
