    Hi,

I want to backup some DVDs I got from Santa.
One in particular is over 3 hours long (about 7 gigs)
    I don't have a Dual Layer drive
I was wondering if theres a way to copy it or rip it to a smaller size
I have tried DVDShrink but it only reduces it to 6 gigs , i need it to be less than 4.7 GB

    Thanks

As the man said, DVD Shrink. You have to change the compression rate to get down to 4.7GB. Choosing "Automatic" should do this for you.

Failing that readm the manual. It's all in there and very easy to use.

reauthor it with dvd shrink ie take out the extras ,you can also take out the extra audio tracks like the directors cut as they can take up to 350 mb alone

I really don't see the problem. If you open DVD Shrink and choose a DVD to open, it analyses it and auto sets the compression to allow the resulting DVD to fit on a single layer blank. No loss of menus, just maybe a slight loss of picture quality. This can be minimised if you strip out non english audio.
