How do I password protect a folder so that it can't be accessed without a password? Is it secure? I don't want to have to compress the folder, if possible...

I'm fairly certain thats there no way to do it in XP but there may be some 3rd party software?

XP pro you can use encrypted ENTFS but for the love of pete make the backup floppies for the password.

    XP home nah.

you could use www.7zip.org or info zip or other free zip utility that takes passwords. WinZip ain't free so you can't use it beyond 30 days.

use folder lock its the biz, its a password protected folder

    http://www.newsoftwares.net/folderlock/
    download from the above

its free, after 30 uses it tells you that the trial has expired, but if you wait 5 seconds it lets you open it

i have used it for 4 years and it is brilliant

nb careful what you store in it as the search facility in windows will not check within the folder as it lock it out

WinRar is a better program for your compression and password protecting of stuff.

An alternative to 3rd party would be simply setting up a passworded user account and then set your folder up, right-click->security&sharing...and tick the box for Make This Folder Private...
