In the Fitz on the early hours of the morning last night and I noticed a sign saying that "due to new gambling legaslation that they are to start charging for players using their poker tables at the rate of 7.50 per hour on the 50 euro tables and 15 per hour on the 100 tables"
    Whats that all about ?

Basically the way the Fitz have been taking their rake is illegal. It's illegal to rake the pots, but it's ok to charge players per hour for the use of the table. It's just a legislation thing.

    dosen't seem unreasonable...if there's no more rake...

Is this not going to be signifigantly more expensive for the player?

7.50 seems reasonable. is it going to be taken upfront at the beginning of each hour? it should encourage more play on the tables (although this has never been lacking in the 50 game!)

it is a bit surprising though, seeing as presumably the rake is no longer allowed because it is a form of gambling - but, then, what about the roulette and blackjack?

I asked Oscar about this last night when he was dealing a cash game I was in and he said it will be the same as always, except they will be taking 25% more in the rake. Currently in the 50 games they take an average of €6 per player per hour in rake, now they will be taking €7.50. It doesn't mention anything about legislation I think, it just mentions increased costs.

I had assumed it would be a pay the dealer on the hour job, but it seems not.

Raking pots is illegal in this country but charging for table rent isnt. QED.

I prefer the rake method but so long as this charge ends the pot-rake it seems ok.

The notice says "due to an increase in running costs the rake is going up" nothing about gambling legislation etc

The new system favours aggressive players which will be good news to most of ye!

It's definitely not going to be more expensive for good players. The cardroom in Limerick charges €5 per half hour with the first half hour free (I think) I think its very reasonable.

This is beneficial to good players since they win the bigger pots which don't get raked. Raking every pot obviously means aggressive players pay more rake. It also means things are much more transparrant and you don't have to keep an eye on what the dealer is taking from the pot. Of course you would never have to do this in the Fitz or the Macau but I can think of at least 2 other cardrooms where you have to watch the dealers like a hawk.

I've never played with a time charge, but I've heard it can be easier on the dealers but bad for the game. When the time collection comes round it's an excuse for players to leave. It's hard enough to pry €3 an hour out of people for the mythical...

The new system is better for loose players anyway, since they paid most of the rake in the old system.

so will they simply ask every player for €7.50 every hour, or when each player has been there an hour? or will it be taken out of pots and be a rake just renamed for legal reasons.

They take it from the pots at the moment. Oscar do you mean to say the rake has gone up but it is still collected in the same way?

Does anyone know what the rakes are in the new place? I know they are
higher than the old Fitz rakes, maybe €4.50 and €6, but I'm not sure. I don't think rake is an issue for most of the punters in Dublin anyway, especially since they were so low.

The only change is that the rake is gone up, Im surprised that so few of you know the way the rake works in the game you're playing. Currently it is 3euro per player per half hour.
