    Folks,

Does anybody know what is the difference between Standard & Premier/SuperStandard tickets on the trains?

Am heading to Limerick in a few days and just wondering what you get, if anything, for the few extra bob?

Reserved seating, generally with a little more space. Often a dedicated steward and you are next to the dining car. Some trains will have internet / fax.

Citygold (Cork-Dublin) and Enterprise (Dublin-Belfast) are some of these products http://www.iarnrodeireann.ie/our_services/citygold.asp

Victor is correct. There's more space between seats. Food served to your table (depending on the service) etc.

But the main reason for choosing CityGold/FirstPlus/First is that scummers are unlikely to pay the extra charge so you've a better chance of a quiet comfortable trip.

Seat spacing is a red herring vast bulk of first class seats are in the MK3 composite coaches (air conditioned, power doors and mid section partition) which are half first and half second, those sitting in second get the exact same seat with the same space (its 4 seats across), its the coach behind the restaurant car and the country end of the train it lovely and quiet. These coaches appear on Dublin Cork/Tralee/Westport and in a limited way Limerick/Waterford and Galway.

Citygold is a whole different kettle of fish and you get a wider seat (only 3 seats across) with more legroom and is worth the money but its not available on direct services to Limerick so you change at Limerick Junction and there is only second class onwards. Only 3 trains each way have citygold (that should be 15 by this time next year) only the 17:05 Heuston Limerick has first class and full catering

Super standard is available on the older MK2 trains (manual doors) it used to be £5 to upgrade but there is no meals included

To be honest the trains are very quiet, only January 2nd is likely to be busy as people try to get home, you are paying too much already
