Hmmm once again Leixlip is excluded despite the fact that they have a very detailed map of it. If Bray is included surely Leixlip should be. Leixlip is in the Dublin Metropolitan Area, according to the Gardaí anyway.

The maps on the DTO journeyplanner have been updated, as have the satellite photos. I'm not sure if this applies to all areas.

I entered my daily cycle commute, it gave me a walking route instead. It also contained the lamest piece of pro-motorist advice: " Tip for Pedestrians: Make use of available walking facilities e.g. footpaths, zebra crossings etc."

Instead of toying with gimmicks like this, it's a pity the DTO doesn't do something about the sham 'strategic cycle network'.

Excellent satellite photos. Must be recent enough - in my back garden I can see the patio furniture that I bought during the summer.

The backend for the Journey Planner is provided by MapFlow. Contact them about mistakes and exclusions.

Must be June July my house was built then and I can see the building work go on around it. Even though my estate is not marked on the map but when i clicked the area it showed the photo !!!

I think mapFlow uses aerial as opposed to satellite photography. The route planner needs serious updating around D15. It still picks out the longest routes that completely ignore long standing alleyways and cut throughs that are only available to pedestrians in favour of routes that follow streets usable by vehicular traffic. That defeats the whole bloody purpose! Even before the Ongar Distributor Road opened there was a 20min route to Clonsilla Station from my house and now that the new road is open there's a faster 12min walk, yet the journey planner still routes you along a 30+ min walk. Crazy.

I contacted the DTO a good while back, asking them to add the canal towpath as a possible route. They said that all routes had to be paved, lit and wheelchair accessible.

It would be nice to add short cuts, like the pedestrian bridge over the M50.

That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. There are a small minority of people in wheelchairs but of course these folks should be looked after too-so what would I do? I'd ask "able bodied or wheelchair route" before the route is calculated-then give the appropriate route out!

also ignores the new pedestrian bridge at the IFSC - try going from Pearse Station to commons st.

and still doesn't include the walkways along the dodder (which are paved and lit) - try going from lansdowne road to fitzwilliam quay.
