    The shock of the day was perhaps Alker beating Ovens who was very poor for the entire match. The Painter v Newton game was an excellent match which Newton really should have won. He missed countless doubles and in fact could and should have won the match 4-0 in sets but failed to hit his doubles. Painter is a very lucky man.

    All other results were as expected with Dudbridge looking in particularily good form.
