Flashing DVD+R to DVD-R & DVD+R

    Hi All,

    Just wondering if this is possible ?
    It says on the tray tat its DVD+R I heard before that you can flash the "firmware" is this true,i have a heap of dvd-r discs,i need to use up !!!!!!

    Please help ...

    It really does depend on the model,and the firmware... google is your friend.
    It's not recommended to try it unless you have/can make a copy of the original firmware.

    I tried it on the NEC drive in the computer that I'm on at the moment-changed it to a higher model firmware as suggested on a site-it went OK -> it now recognises dvd-R...but made coasters out of the 2 discs i tested with. (It might work at slower speeds,with different media..but i'm not bothered trying)

    no point applying that firmware...that just allows you to play different region DVD.. (i.e. DVD's from America,Australia,etc.)... it's not what you're after.

    expand your searches to include the Liteon model number also (Sony rebranded it..)


    OK...just another option: Use the FS section to try trade the -R ...:)

    It depends on your make and model i have an OEM Nec model from Dell, i was able to flash the drive and can now use some dvd -r media...

    I had to order a mixed packet of disks to work out what disk makes i could now use 5,99 from most online stores gets u a nice mixed bag of disks....


    I think cdfreaks was posted above somewhere, go there and learn its a great site with tons of info..
