    Hi,

I am completely frustrated by this bloody game. A few weeks ago this was working perfectly. I have attempted to install the 1.12 patch but each time i do it says Patch Failed. Ever since then the game id crashing to desktop a few seconds after launchin gthe game. I have been on to EA Support (Useless shower!) but have not yet been able to solve this problem. Has anyone out there had the same problem and have they been able to resolve this?

    Cheers.

don't personally have this issue but you're not alone. quick search of google or EA's forums should find some resolution

Have you got 3Gb free on your C: ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 487 ✭✭Polly74

Yeah, I do, I have over 12gb free. I have been through all the specifications with a fine tooth comb. The annoying thing is that this was working perfectly three or four weeks ago before I tried patching it. When I tried to patch it manually using the commend prompt it is looking for the location of the patch even though I have copied it to where it's supposed to be. I am baffled and completetly frustrated, and I won't let it beat me!!

try a uninstall and fresh reinstall?

I'd say I have done that at least 8 or 9 times at this stage.

    bummer!

mmm did u clean reg after uninstall?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 487 ✭✭Polly74

Yep. I have seen plenty of forums with people having the same problem but with no definitive fix for it. It sucks big time.

    yep it does.....

Suppose a complete wipe and reinstall of HD would fix... but all that for a game?

Have you tried to manually uninstall the game by also deleting all the keys in the reg as well?

I think that the pacth produced a patchlog.txt file in /my docs/bf2/dmp/ which tells you exactly why it failed (at least it did with 1.03).

I actually had this problem, the way i got round it was manually taking the Battlefield 2 directory from someone that has the patch, and doing a direct overwrite over the unpatched version.

It worked but its a bit of hassle. i was at a lan party at the time so it was alot handier.

Ok, this may or may not work but has worked for me on some other games. Restart your computer, when it has shut down and has begun rebooting keep pressing F8 untill your computer beeps. You will then get a list of ways to boot your computer, choose SAFE MODE. When it finally boots, find where your patch is saved and run it. Again this might work but its may not.

Let me know if it works! :)

I will actually give this a go. Nothing that EA have told me to do has actually worked at all. This is an issue they are gonna have to sort out.

I have tried this before but I might give it another go. I have read that trying to install the patch booting in Safe mode works, sometimes!!!!

I had this problem and it drove me nuts, it came down to a corrupted d/load of the patch, I redownloaded the patch and no problems after that.

Do you remember where you downloaded the patch from? I have downloaded it from a couple of different sites but with the same error.

Did you find the patchlog.txt file ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,987 ✭✭✭Auvers

Found this on another thread and it worked for a guy with similar problems as you.

Do this EXACTLY and see if it helps...
    c:\windows\prefetch, delete everything
C:\windows\temp, delete everything that it lets you.
Start, Run, %temp%, delete everything that you can.

That's %temp% as in "Percent Sign". This is your user profile temp directory, BTW.

You probably have leftovers from the last attempt and this should remove any.

If you're going to re-install you also need to delete the profile for the game in my documents as mentioned above and then go to the installation directory of the game and delete the whole folder.

Then install the game, SF if you have it and then patch.

Give that a go and see how you make out.

and another solution I found on a forum

    Patching failed.
I found a fix for it but its a little weird but it does work.
    Here is what ya do
1: Start Run type %temp% Hit enter and then clear out that folder. Close that window
2: Start the patch installing and wait for it to either fail or not enuff freespace.
DO NOT CLOSE THE PATCH ERROR. Leave it sit there
3: Start Run type %temp% Hit enter
Now find the DISK1 folder. Its there somewhere inside one of the new folders that just got made.
4: Copy it to yer desktop. Now you can finish or close the patch failed error box
5: Inside disk 1 is Patch.RTP and Patch.RTD. Copy those to your main BF2 folder wherever it is.
9: Go inside the Diisk1 folder on your desktop and run setup. Takes a few minutes Like 5 but it does work i did it tonight
