I'm looking to get a TV card for my PC...

    It must be PCI.
It must support NTL Basic with Coax input.
It's gotta support NTL/Sky digital aswell if I decide to go that route later on.
It's gotta allow me to hook a DVD player up to it and capture from that too.

I don't ask much really... any suggestions welcomed :)

NTL needs special decoders - at best you will be able to use the output from a scart lead.
SKY is satellite so uses a different frequency and modulation - A TV card will NOT work you would need a satellite card. Also SKY uses a special encryption so only FTA channels would be available. Some satellite cards will have a slot that takes a CAM for a viewing card but mostly for foreign languages and are more expensive than normal satellite cards.
DVD - easier to use a DVD drive in the computer for viewing etc.

Ok... don't worry about the digital ... I'm happy for it to just take Scart/Composite input....

It also needs to work with NTL Basic package :)

    whats your budget?

A dual tuner card would be good. Allowing you to watch one source while you record another etc etc.

This will do that for you:

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=305161&cks=SER

It doesnt come with any software as it is designed to work with MCE. It has two RF receivers and Svideo (for your Digibox\NTL digital)

Standard NTL will work out of the box.

Also, it might be an idea to get a "IR Blaster". This allows the computer in question to control the Digibox\NTL box and change the channels.

Windows MCE or MythTv is probably the best way to go with this, theres lots of info on boards, have a look on the home enterainment forum.

I don't have a budget as such... but I don't want to spend more then I have to. Personally I don't feel that 2 recievers is neccessary on it.

I want a decent quality one that allows me to record or watch coax (ntl basic) or composite (any scart input).

Appreciate your comments all the same SouperComputer.

    PVR 150 then: http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/products/data_pvr150.html

Of course you can only view what you are recording simulaneously!

I'm happy to view/record at the same time... no complaints there.

As for the one you linked to, I can't see it on komplett... do you know offhand of nayone who sells it? I'll have a look later myself but just in case anyone knows ?

im sure dabs or whatnot will have it in stock. You should also be able to pick one up on ebay. IT Direct or Marx may have some too.

Regardless of what card you choose, it woudnt do any harm to get one thats MCE compatible.

Am I gonna notice any difference going for PCI or PCI Express ?

    Any reasons I shouldn't go for this card then - http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=312218&cks=PRL ?

I'm looking at http://www.komplett.ie/k/kl.asp?wf=X&bn=10419&minPrice=&maxPrice=&inStockOnly=on again now and more specifically http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=312218&cks=PRL

Can anyone confirm that this WILL WORK with NTL Basic package, which seems to be a mix of UHF/VHF coming in on a COAX cable?

So far so good. The remote works, the tv channels all seem good (NTL Basic).

The only complaint I have so far is that I can't tune the channels manually, I can only seem to do it with the auto-tune (which finds them all though!). This may be down to my failure when it comes to reading manuals :)
