Charities

Has anyone here experience in setting up a charity. I've done some research, and apart from getting tax-free allowance from the revenue comissioners, there is no actual registration of Charities? I'm considering setting up a much needed charitable organisation with regards to arts in the community, but it will be an awful lot of hard work. Anyone any advice for me?

I looked into it (briefly) before..
In short: There's no real specific registration..you set up ..and apply; and then they deem whether to exempt from tax.

    http://www.revenue.ie/ is the starting point..

Could I ask the OP if you have got any further with this?

Am in the very early stages of looking at a specific charity idea myself at the moment

Basically it you need to setup either a trust or company with a charitable objective (i.e. alleviation of poor, advancement of education, advancement of religion) etc. there are different public benefit requirements for each category. You then need to register with revenue.

from what I can tell the simplest to set up is an unincorporated association with a consitution...?
