One of my relations is thinking of getting an FTV system installed in her place in Limerick mainly for BBC/ITV

Would It be cheaper for her to

    1) Get an FTA (28 deg fixed) system professionally installed
    or
    2) Go for the cheapest Sky package and get rid of it after a year ?

How much are we realistically talking about in either case ?

Also If she moves house how much in each case to get the system moved to the new place ?

Personally, I'd go for the Sky system, with the lowest 2Mix package for the year. Then cancel. That way, you can always subscribe again to Sky in the future, plus for the year, you have the selection of subscription channels. Also gives you the choice of adding a FTV card later!

And of course, BBCi, Sky News Active, etc only work on Sky boxes.

The only downside is that channels are in the order Sky have them, you can't change them like on a FTA box. And UTV and ITV2 would have to be added into Other Channels menu for the duration of the subscription.

Still, I'd prefer the Sky box.:)

A relation of mine is getting a Freesat from Sky installed next month. The main reason is that their Northern terrestial TV reception is poor, though funnily enough their RTÉ is good!

The idea of a 1 year subscription and then cancelling is one that is on the table, but at least by keeping a FTA or FTV option in the case of FfS, you are unlikely to come across the Murdoch Thought Police when you go to cancel, which is a big bonus!

Id say the sky would turn out a bit cheaper maybe depends how much the fta installer charges you.
