<shrug> Maybe the DVD's themselves are bad copies/forgeries?

Happens with mine too. Tried a couple of legit titles and they are all the same,

hey, got a similar problem with mine.

was watching futurama season1 last night, wasnt skipping time, but was a bit jumpy.

but when i used the zoom option and just zoomed in x1 it seemed to be fine!

Similar, but the oposite. Some of my scratched DVD's won't play on my Sony player but will play fine on the XB360

I'm fairly happy with that, both are plugged into the same tv, so I just swap the disks over if I have a problem in one player.

The only problems I had was the audio went out of sync for about ten seconds the first time I used it as a DVD player. Since then it's been perfect.

Mine skips alright, but it only seems to drop the odd frame here and there, its weird its like its lagging somehow.
They better patch it up soon or else my old Xbox will be doing DVDs only, hopefully upscaling will be done soon too.

yeah checked on mine, some of my babylon 5 dvds skip, but some of my other dvds work fine, ahhh well guess ill just use one of my other 5 dvd players (i have way too many!)

Maybe it's lagging because of the legitimate DVD copy protection system (css)?, perhaps explaining why copies seem to work fine as they've had the protection removed...

Im having the same trouble -

But only when the machine is standing up? Not on its side, tried a new father ted DVD on Xmas day and it was just skippy/hoppy and a new clarkson dvd.....

    Anyone a number for Microsoft?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

No mine isent standin up... its lying flat...... its really annoying..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,566 ✭✭✭GrumPy

LIVE will more then likely have a firmware upgrade patch to download soon enough, to scratch out the bugs, nothing worng with the machine, should be be sorted easy enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭god's toy

How often is it skipping? Just popped in a Metallica DVD (Cunning Stunts) and it's working fine wile standing up, running about 10 Min's now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,336 ✭✭✭Bluehair

Skips every few seconds, its obviously a 360 problem as it's happening with the same titles (Des Bishop Live for example).

I'm going back to my dedicated dvd player with component out and switching to vga for the 360.

    Hi,

I noticed the problem the other night. When the console is set to use PAL 50hz, DVD playback seems fine. But when set the PAL 60hz, the DVD will play out of sync or it will appear jerky.

So phone xbox 360 customer support and complain!!! ... and in the meantime the temporary fix is to drop down to PAL 50hz - if you have the option (it's not available when using the VGA cable).

tried to watch spongebob square pants on my friends last night and the top of the screen was jumpy nut the rest of thescreen was grand.

Might be the region free dvds, both des bishop and chasing the lions are region free. I tried chasing the lions and it skipped on me too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 585 ✭✭✭Wanton

dont think its region free dvd's, my futurama is r2 and skips.

can some else who is having this problem try zooming in x1 and see if this resolves it?

bring mine back to my where i got it next week and wouldnt mind knowing if other pple have the exact same problem as me.

    cheers

imho, its not a problem with the console, prolly just dvd drive needs upgraded firmware, or a patch from xbox live should sort it out.

Exactly, it's not a hardware issue. When the original Xbox is set to PAL 60hz, it actually drops to PAL 50hz when playing DVDs. The Xbox 360 does not seem to do this so it's simple a software bug (ie. MS didn't test it enough *shock horror*) but it can be fixed.

Once again, do call Xbox Customer Support and let them know, the more people that call the better!

I called the support earlier about this....

They said they would be sending a patch out to upgrade even though "they werent aware of it" to which I replied "check any 360 Pal net forum + see wat the peeps are saying"

Also I think theothernt made the most sense about the DVD titles bein 50hz.....

For me you are 100% correct.
I tried all my region free dvd's and all the same.
Tried a good few region 2 and the all play perfectly.

    Good call

And of course, now that they maybe be aware of it, it’s worth noting that they still may not be aware of the problem, if it is a problem, but if they are, it is, of course, an isolated problem.

What’s the 360 like for playing DVDs? For non-action sequences, would it not be a bit nosy in the average living room?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,566 ✭✭✭GrumPy

its not AS noisy when playing a dvd as a game (afaik some system components that arnt needed are powered off) but its not exactally silent either. edit:

quick check sees ps2 slightly louder, and more obvious disc reading (ps2 game inside ps2, xbox1 game inside 360)

Mine skips, tried it with the naked camera DVD brand new

I used my dvd player on my xbox 360 two nights ago for the first time and it was fine , I was watching R2 wolf creek and my xbox was set to pal 50hz. Then last night i tried region 0 tommy tieran loose dvd and it was skipping and sound was out of sync. So i took out the dvd and put in another R2 dvd and it was fine so I tink it well could be that the R0 dvd's are the problem.

I've watched quite a few films over christmas on my Xbox 360 I haven't seen any skipping problems although I'm using a HD TV and the component cables so maybe its isolated to when you are using SD PAL format.

I had the same problem with the Tommy Tiernan DVD & any R2's that I watched were fine.

However, my console has crashed maybe 5 or so times (playing games) since I got it 2 weeks ago so I don't know what to think with regards to whether or not my problems could be fixed with a patch from Live...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,177 ✭✭✭Lord Spence

If its crashing while playing games then I would advise to bring it back , if you leave it too long the store you bought it from will make you send it back to microsoft for repair.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭niall2j

I know, not TOO worried though 95% of the time its perfect and even if I did bring it back they probably wouldn't have one to replace it with! I'll just deal with MS if I end up needing to do anything.

there are a few problems with the xbox 360, the one i got for xmas has to be replaced, im currently waiting for a curryer

Hi Peeps, same problem on all 360's it seems, the only way to make it ok is to switch to 50hz for some DVD's and 60 hz for games ( as really makes some games really bad on 50hz, project gotham is expecially poor on 50hz with low framerates)

Have emailled microsoft with the bug but to no avail.

EMAIL MICROSOFT CS AND BIG THEM, LET THEM KNOW AS WHEN I PHONED THEY OFFERED ME A REPLACEMENT BUT THINK IT'S JUST A BUG, SO TAKE THE TIME AND LET THEM KNOW.

Yeah I sussed this out myself, switch it to 50hz when watching Tv doc/Comedy DVDs and its fine, leave it on 60hz for movies......

Pain in the hole though, does anyone know if this applies to a HDTV?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,892 ✭✭✭madrab

anotherthing i noticed is that dvd's seem to be darker on my 360 than my xbox

Nope when in HD, youve no options.
    360 outputs 720p/60hz anyway.
It just means ive to switch it at the back from HD to SD if I want to look at a DVD.

    Same here....

Strange skippy lines all over the place!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 467 ✭✭Clank

Antifyre are you getting like almost 'solar flare' or horizontal lines moving through the image aswell? When in HD showing a DVD now, through component.

Bang on Clank; it should'nt do that though, should it??

I know a DVD ain't HD, but still, It's a pain in the ass having to switch over and back...

I'm a bit puzzled by this thread as I have watched plenty of DVD's on my 360 and I haven't had this problem except for with one "backup" DVD that had playback issues on my PC as well. Am I just really lucky or are there others who aren't having issues?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭antifyre

Are you watching it on a SD or HD TV??

The 360 is set to 50hz naturally, and if you are watching it on a SD tv with the Cable set to TV, then there should be no problem....

I went and fiddled with mine and look what happened!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 467 ✭✭Clank

Yep happens to me, im looking at it on a HD projector through component, I didnt fiddle with it at all though!

Im hoping the VGA cable sorts it, VGA is better anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 933 ✭✭✭Furp

    Mine is Fine too.

I've watch a lot of DVDs on my 360 through the component cable on my HDTV and I have not had any problems. I have the 360 set to 1080i.
