Logitech MX1000 Crap for Games?

    Hi Folks,

I got myself an MX1000 Laser Mouse as a present for Christmas and it doesn't seem to be the best for gaming? My 4 year old Mouseman Optical seems to be far more accurate.
Sometimes the MX1000 seems to be too twitchy, while at other times it seems to be lagging. Has anyone any experiance of this? I know for gaming I should get the G7, but it has a woeful battery life, and I don't like the fact that it doesn't have a docking cradle. Also a few of my mates use the MX1000 for gaming and seem content enough with it.

    Many thanks.

Took a long time for me to get used to it. This is also coming from optical to laser. Now I feel the accuracy is there moreso than optical mice. Reactions times and general aiming is much better. MX1000 is big and heavy so it's something you have to get used to. Sort out the mouse speed and acceleration. It takes time to figure which settings feel right for you, but when you do, it's the money you spent on the mouse all worth it.

The Bluetooth one I have is indeed a bit rubbish in CS etc.
I hear the Fast RF version is great though :\

Although Logitech have updated the Setpoint software (online update) a few times since I got it, so I must try it again with the Games Detection settings turned on!

    Thanks guys,

I'll mess around with the settings and ingame settings and see what I can do. Anyone else have any experiance of it?

I just got one myself for christmas and I find it excellent, then again my old mouse was utter crap. I love the weight of it, helps accuracy and the thumb rest is sweet too. I think its justr a case of getting used to it.

i'm still dubious about wireless mice.

bluetooth ones are dirt (well i've only used one - the one that came with my laptop)

but i hear a lot of people saying that the new high end RF mice are meant to bridge the gap.

RF mice used to be absolutely appauling.

The 'twitchy' problem is due to the high DPI sensitivity of the mouse, coupled with the in game mouse sensitivity (usually under either 'game' or 'controls' in most games) being set too high, setting the mouse sensitivity lower either through the windows control panel (to affect it everywhere) or through each individual games' options should fix it. The lagging is due to the high DPI setting of the mouse and the low 'report speed' (the amount of messages per second that can be sent) of USB. This basically means that the mouse can detect more movements than it can actually transmit back to the PC via USB so some of the movements get either queued or skipped. The G5/G7 and Razor's newest high DPI mouse (can't remember the name) solve this by using some kind of trickery to improve the USB 'reporting speed' so it can keep up with the amount of movement being detected by the mouse.

RF can be fine, the G7 is proof (altough it uses new tech to achieve it), but even before that I had a cheapy lidl job and I never had RF related problems with it, the only probs I had were due to a crappy mouse mat.

I have found that by removing mouse acceleration in windows with a high dpi mouse makes it feel a lot more like the old school mouses

get rid of mouse acceleration. Very few people i know like it for games. The twitching thing sounds like that might be your problem.
