I will be buying some microphones from the USA in the new year and the shipping options are either UPS Worldwide Express or UPS Worldwide Expedited.

What I want to know is how much do UPS charge in administration fees due to calculating customs duty? Do they calculate customs for all packages or is it hit and miss like with An Post?

Anything that's even been shipped to me by UPS, I've had to pay 'Administrative' charges. So overwhelming odds are you'll get stung too.

My missus works in UPS. Pm me what you need to know and I'll get you an answer.

If the OP gives me his tracking number via PM then it'll be up to him to share the information. I don't think it's up to me to divulge.

I'll be buying some microphones from soundprofessionals.com. Their shipping options are UPS Worldwide Express or UPS Worldwide Expedited or USPS uninsured Airmail. I'd rather know whether UPS have "administration charges" before ordering and how much these charges would be before ordering.

My other option would be to have the microphones shipped via shopthestates.com, which may avoid custom charges as they use USPS and offer an insured option.

UPS normally charge an administration fee for collecting customs duty and VAT payable. (You will be charged the Duty due and VAT too )
FedEx and DHL normally do as well.
Only USPS { the United States Postal Service } definitely don't.

UPS will charge import for every parcel, apart it is send from a private person to a private person and if it is under a certain value (gift shipment). I don't know the fees, as I do not work for the irish market. There is a base fee and then the taxes and duties. The taxes and duties will be based on the price the shipper writes on the invoice he has to send with the parcel.

Express takes 2 working days and Expedited 3-4 working days.

    Best regards,

    K-Tric GF

Any idea how much the UPS fee is?

Going by viewers feedback from my websites it's not unusual to have to pay €5 for an Admin fee to the courier co..
I haven't got the specific rate for UPS, though with some companies the fee can go up depending on the amount of duty and VAT to be 'handled'.

The admin charge in the UK from UPS was £10 a couple of years ago. Unless they have reduced the fee, I would imagine it is €12-€15. the fee from Royal Mail is £4 and I would imagine that a courier company will be more expensive considering that they will pay the tax and bill you.

Do you know if they charge you this fee/vat charge on delivering items or just bill you for the amount?

In my experience, they will invoice you after delivery

Ok, I got the right figures now. The administration charge for UPS is €13.50 or 2% of the duty, whichever is greater, plus VAT. So it's €16.34 unless your purchase over €4000 or so.

Also UPS were looking for the customs charge directly from me the other day, not an invoice. It would of helped if they were delivering to the right address. I've had nothing but problems with UPS and won't be using them again if I can help it.

I just remember that I was told you can either pay the duty/administration charges over the phone with as credit card BEFORE the delivery arrives, or you can pay the UPS guy when he arrives with the package.
