A question about PSUs

    Happy Christmas all,

I see that many, if not most, power supplies have a fan on the top side of them. I was thinking of getting a power supply but I'm concerned as the current PSU has no fans on top and is placed at the top corner of the case. There is very little room between it and the top of the case.

If I was to get a PSU with the top fan in it, would it work fine despite the top of the case covering it up?

Edit: Will I need to get a new case to fit current, decent PSUs? And thanks in advance.

I've just thought of something: when I see those pics of a 120/140 mm fan on the PSU, is that actually the bottom side of the PSU?

Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question but I've found nothing on the internet that clarifies this. Any help greatly appreciated.

Its not a stupid question at all. All PSU's with just one fan will have them on the bottom of the unit when placed in a PC case in the normal position towards the top of the case.

In the odd case that has the PSU at the bottom then the PSU is inverted so the fan faces up.

    Hope this answers your 'Q.

    Happy Christmas :D

Thanks a million for that, I wasn't sure at all what the story was. And would I be right in saying that the second fan is usually beside the mains cable connection, where the grid is?

Yep, you're right on that...or it sometimes is the other end of the PSU next to where the wires exit.

    :D
