Righto, so I got a nano, and it turns out its not compatible with Windows 98. So, whats to be done? Every site Ive found wants registration/charity donations in return for using their program to beat this, and because I work for a certain company I know how risky and dodgy the whole business of internet shopping actually is, so sending money to something would only be a last resort.
Also Ive no broadband so I cant really be downloading XP.

    Help me:(

What, for 150 quid or whatever? Yeah right.

Theres some roundabpout way of doing it on Windows 98, however the guy hosting it demands a charity donation

    Completely wrong forum,genius.

Anapod Explorer, EphPod, and XPlaywork should work with Windows 98SE, but it also depends on which iPOD you have (And have the advantage of allowing you to transfer music to and from the iPod).

    Mlipod: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mlipod

All nice and free. I hate iTunes.

Download this http://win98.drivers.w.interia.pl/ipod.html , they're drivers to get windows 98 to recognise your ipod, then download winamp and the plugin that kerbdog told you to....it takes a lot of tinkering but I've managed to get an ipod working on 98 this way.

And I wouldn't recommend forking out for XP, chances are that if your machine came with Windows 98 then it wouldn't run very well with XP...but then again you never know..

What's wrong with an ipod? They're possibly the greatest things in the world! Especially the new video ipod. Fits in your hand and you can watch movies at a surprisingly high quality! Great for travelling.

Don't feed the trolls, when the best they can do to help is insult the choice you've made in mp3 players then they're not worth talking to.

(sorry to threadcrash this but no point in making a new thread)

Actually.. speaking of iPod Problems.. anyone used the iPod video yet?

Sister got one yesterday and we can't figure out how to load videos onto it. I hate iTunes with a passion (EphPod all the way) so i'm pretty clueless about it.

But i assumed you'd load the Videos into the Videos playlist section on iTunes and then just right-click on the iPod icon and update songs. But the videos aren't appearing on it.

Encoded an episode of Seinfeld to MP4 and everything to see how it'd look! :D

I'm seeing so many threads about this; Apple are looking you to actually pay for video d/ls so have gone out of their way to make it tough for users to put their own stuff on there.
Quicktime Pro will do the trick but that involves spending more money (on Apple :D).
Here's what some guy from my old guild did:
Downloaded a third party program (PQ DVD to iPod Video) and it's ripping Diehard from AVI to MPG4 now (and I'm impressed by the speed, a three hour movie in 20 min isn't bad) so we'll see how that goes.

    So that apparently works, but...
To get the video I had to put it in itunes and use itunes to update the video. The problem is that say I want movie A on my iPod and not on my PC, because of HD space. So I put movie A into itunes, it automatically updates and installs it. Then I delete movie A from my hard dive and itunes, and next time I update my ipod, it deletes movie A from my ipod. So I put movie A back in, tell it not to automatically update video, and put it back on the iPod. Now I can delete movie A, but if I want to install a new movie, movie B, the only way I can seem to do it is if I tell it to automatically update again, which of course also deletes movie A.

...and if you think things are bad now just wait till Steve Jobs ties up the whole movie download thing with digital rights management with help from Intel....things aren't going to get any easier.
I'll be sticking with the PSP.
