Help with NTL MMDS and DVD player connection

I bought GF a DVD player for a Christmas present. She has NTL MMDS digital.(in Oranmore)
The MMDS box has a scart socket with a 'twin lead' out of it - one marked TV and the other VCR.I plugged the DVD payer to the VCR lead but can't seem to get it to work.

Do you have to press anything on the NTL remote to get it to work,I can't see anything obvious. The only menu settings on the NTL box seems to be scart control on/off which makes no difference.
GF says her VCR hasn't worked since she the digital box but she had it disconnected as she didn't use it.

Is there something else to be done or is there a problem with the MMDS box?
(presumably DVD player should over-ride TV channels when switched on ?)

DVD player works fine when connected directly to TV.I'm kind of stuck as TV have only one Scart and no other inputs other than aerial.

    Any help appreciated.

If the tv has more than one scart, you should connect the DVD player directly to it. It would be better, however, to connect a DVD ***RECORDER*** to the extra scart on the MMDS box.

If you connect the player to the VCR scart on the MMDS decoder, it will take priority over the decoder and switch over to the appropriate AV channel -- effectively meaning that you could ONLY either watch the output of the decoder OR the DVD player. The small voltage on pin 8 gives a device priority [and thus switches tvs onto the appropriate AV channel].

So, I reiterate -- connect the DVD player directly to the tv if you have a spare scart [which, upon my second reading of your post, you don't].

Possible setup: connect the VCR to the VCR scart on the decoder. Perhaps the VCR has another scart connection to allow the DVD player to be connected to that, creating one over-whelming loop-through!

Let us know how you get on.

Those scart leads ONLY work one way, unlike most normal leads. It just creates two outputs from the stb.
If what ethernet said doesn't work then go and buy a scart block from argos etc.
Handy things when your TV only has one scart connection.

The Scart block is probably the way to go ok.
If the twin lead is only one it could never work so.

Thanks for the info Folks and Merry Christmas
