Personally I've never rung Dell support. Usually all the info you need is on Dell Talk. That said its pretty hard to fix a PC over the phone, and you get a lot of morons who can't eat with a fork never mind use a computer. Thankless job. You always have the option of paying for better on site support. ;)

only time i had to really ring them was over my restore partition being corrupt.

turned out from process of gandering through google that i unlocked it and used ghost to do the job.

Yep, I'd also be of the opinion that Dell 'support' smells of displeasure.

At first, I thought this was going to be a video of a support guy in a foreign country asking thousands of questions BEFORE going onto getting tech support.

I dont ring them unless I have a problem that I cant solve myself, because either get someone who cant speak a word of English, someone who asks me thousands of questions such as my name, address, telephone, etc. before we get onto getting tech support. Then when I finally get it, I cant finish the call without being asked for an email address - and a big explanation why they need it. Im not allowed interrupt either.

    Drives me insane. ><

Who needs Dell Tech support, when everyone here gives a helping hand for free, and does a great job of it? ^_^

    Hates that

You have to register your details with every manufacturer. And, of course, they get benefit or marketing information, etc. but it might come in handy if you ever send a computer back for repair or need a part sent out.. postal addresses come in handy then :p
You need Tech Support to get free replacement hardware when it's faulty :p
    Other than that..mneh.

In fairness, I've talked to one decent guy (Scottish) in Dell.
The overall experience was a disaster, but he was nice...

As a 6 year Dell user I guess I should be a fan but I share the dread mentioned above ..... on a few occasions I've reached really gen guys/gals ..... on a couple of other occassions I've spoken to some very dissapointing dolls ..... it's a gamble ...... it's a pity you have to give them so many details before talking about your problem ..... it would be great to simply hang-up as soon as recognise your talking to the wrong person:( but by then your call is logged ... your identified and stuck with the person your speaking too:(

    Dell tech support sucks.

I remember one time on my (now dinosaur) Dell computer, that I wanted to use an older operating system on the computer, Windows NT to be specific. I was doing a lot of college work at the time, didn't have much time for games, and I wanted something light and fast.

So I sent their tech support a question by E-Mail (was concerned about drivers etc), they sent me back some AI generated crap that was totally irrelevent, and when I indicated that the answer did not help, they sent it to some Indian who obviously couldn't speak English, completely misread my question and in his/her reply was totally unhelpful, gave me a huge lecture on piracy and basically ordered me to put Dells' WinXP BACK on the computer - this despite the fact that I had clearly stated that I hadn't taken it off yet.

    Idiots.

Not only that but they sent me fliers non-stop every month for the next 2 years despite numerous calls to stop.

And most of their extras are a rip-off.

yeah i know about the letters, it just goes straight into the bin, we get 5 every month.
    1 for me
    1 for the buisness
    1 for my mam
1 for the attn of the IT dept (that would be me)
    1 for the householder
The bin seems to like them, i havnt heard a complaint from it yet.

but .... the bottom line for me was, where else could I get a P4 3.0 17" flat dvd/cd combo for 600 euros plus 45 bucks a year for three years (to have 'all repairs done free')

remembering my old Dell had done 5 plus years .... never let me down (untill the $$$$$$$ lightning decided to prove to my surge protector that nature will always win in the end) ..... oh and one F.O.C. hd at Dells expense ......

    Classic.

I've had one or two dealings with them.

Very annoying and only do it at a last resort
