PC World have 80G disks at 110 Euro.

However their 200G Samsung at just under 100 Euro records ANALOG HUFFY codec format (2:1 lossless compression, very severe disk test) without dropping any frames (933MHz PIII on Win XP). 7200rpm and "noise guard technology".

Your Sky+ probabily needs a new disk. I don't know what happens if you try and fit the 200G.

The 260 Euro 400G Hitachi Deskstar is probabily a bad idea apart from being expensive.

Only thing is you see I have a funny feeling that I may know why this has occured.

I recently had an fta receiver installed in a room upstairs, the guy who installed it informed me that rather than install a new separate dish which I had , that he would install the new fta receiver differently because I had a quad LNB. Now I am a relative novice to the whole satellite scene so I just went the flow like and said if it was possible go ahead with it .

Now since then 50% of sky + recordings keep screwing up and this occasion is the straw that has broken the camels back.

I doubt it, as watty says most likely the hard drive

Ya having got Watty's opinion and paying a visit to DigitalSpy its more than likely the hard drive. I am going to go out to Maplins tommorrow morning and hopefully buy a new one. Wanna have fixed for xmas like.

Make sure it is a an AV compatible drive. It isn't a question of speed or capacity. Not all drives are compatible. Maplin and PC World are both good at taking stuff back that doesn't work. I only order things that might be a problem from net if much cheaper.

If you can view all the channels on Sky+, and the FTA box then its nothing to do with install.

The Services Setup signal strength shows both LNB inputs too.

Maplin apparently have a policy of not taking back hard drives that have been opened. Strange but true.

I bought one a few months ago in Maplin in town (Dublin) for my PC which turned out to be the wrong type (despite being told by the assistant that it was the type I needed). The info on the box didn't make it clear which type of drive it was.

Luckily when I got it home I was able to see that it was wrong without opening the inner plastic packaging. I brought it back immediately and the guy made such a song and dance about replacing it with the correct one (even though I was paying extra money). This was even after admitting that the original assistant had made a mistake. He told me that if it had been opened they would not have replaced it. It wouldn't have mattered if I'd used it or not.

It's a shame really - I used to really like Maplin, but their sales staff seem to be getting less and less knowledgable. They also seem to be developing a tendancy for giving you a plastic bag without asking if you want one and charging you for it.

If it doesn't work they have to take it back or at least exchange it.

If its not suitable for the purpose for which it was intended as advised by the sales staff then they either have to repair replace or refund the item.

All is well , I went out early this morning and bought a new hard drive in Maplins. Went through the tutorial that Dilbert kindly posted and everything is back in working order. Thank god it works because Christmas without Sky + would be a disaster.

As I said before tho it must have been on the blink for a while now , because recordings would not complete, they would be jittering with the sound distorted.

Anyways I am so glad to have it fixed, thanks guys for the advice.
