Which I can gladly say was won by myself!!!!! First live tournie victory in months, and boy did I need this. I have been playing well lately, but kept bubbling, 9th, 4th, 17th in the 500 game and so on. I just couldn't get back to the decent money I was earning around 3 months ago.

I got off to a great start when I was playing looser than normal including one hand where I had called from Button for 150 with A10s, Big D raised it to 1700, Vincenzo called so I figured what the hell, rebuys left, call (I had one rebuy used at this stage).

Flop comes A,10,10. Big D bet 3000 (all I had left). I had thought Vincenzo was all in and so I said "I'll call with my A10", and realised that Vincenzo still had chips before I flipped my cards. He obviously didn't hear and called Daves bet. I did too, strangely enough. Dave had heard me and tried successfully to get a sidepot for his QQ from Vincenzo who duly called with KJ for the rest. No Q on the turn or river meant I won that one and Dave took a sidepot of a couple of grand.

I would not normally play in this situation with the raise and call in front of me, but this was a mad, loose table and I had only used one rebuy at this stage. With Vincenzo calling though, and having position I decided to see the flop.

I won another couple of pots to bring me to about 20k at the break. After the break I worked this to 45k after knocking out Kevin Farrelly with KK vs flush draw on the flop, and a few pot steals.

Then I went on the by now customary lull in cards and kept around the 35k mark for ages. At one stage with 11 players left I lost a pot to knock me to 14k, then won 3 blinds in a row at 1500/3000 to get back to 27.5k. After a round or so I went all in on BB for 20k after an all in from UTG, blinds 2/4 now. I figured I had to call with A9 suited with only 5BB left. He flipped over AQs and I needed a very helpful 9 on the turn to help me out.

Final table consisted of Macker, Anto, Myself, Brian Murphy, Mick Locke, Cecil, Brian eile from Dub (don't know surname), A.N.Other and Andy from Laois, so tough lineup there, no pushovers at all for those who know the people involved.

A battle of the blinds turned into a poker of 8's for my 7,8 and Anto was crippled with 9,10 on a board of 8,8,9,8,5. He went in next hand and got knocked out by Brian M. Then a few hands later I got AA on the cutoff, and made it 14k (blinds still 2/4). Brian Murphy called from the button, and on a board of 2,3,4 I went all in for 24k which Brian called with JJ to cripple him when no help came. Brian got knocked out by Macker I think and Cecil then knocked out Brian eile and Mick Locke, and I eliminated Andy with AK vs KQ.

We were down to 4 then with prizemoney of 2900, 1500, 1000, 500. I proposed taking 500 of top for 4th, so we were all playing for at least a grand, but the small stack (A.N.Other, didnt agree so we played on) and then the hand here happened:

    Me 120,000, BB, JJ
    Macker 150,000, SB, folded
    Cecil 150,000, UTG AK
    A.N. Other 60,000, Button, QQ

    Blinds still 2500/5000
Cecil made it 25K to go
Button went all in for 60k
    Macker folded
I thought about it with JJ (4 Handed would need a special reason to fold), and just called the 60k bet. The all-in was a real comeback kid (except in age - he looked like John Virgo to me :D ). Lose one, be crippled, win 5, that was his modus operandi it seemed, kept coming back. I figured Cecil knew I was pot committed at this stage and had though he would have folded.
Cecil went all in, I called (obviously, but liking it less than I had done) so 300,000 pot. I had thought Cecil would go away at this stage as he still had 125k left.

Flop came 8,9,10 to give me a straight draw.
Turn in the 5d to give me the only flush draw too.
River was welcome 7c to give me the straight.

A couple of hands later I had 99 on BB again and Cecil went all in for 30ish and I called. A on the flop, 9 on the river (meant to be my night!!).

2 of us left, and I had nearly 3:1 chip lead on Macker, and it was 5am at this stage. I suggested I take 2500, and Macker would get 1900 which he was happy with (100 had been taken for 10th already).

So technically I didn't win a heads up to win this, but I don't give a flying fig, I was happy with this. I like deals if I feel they are in my best interest and this one was as far as I was concerned.

I'm sure there will be the obligatory "Why isn't this in the boast thread", but this is in a thread about this tournie, so here it is.

I got luck on my side tonight a few times, but not many tournies are decided without a few outdraws. I have suffered them myself a few times including my 88 beaten by 23 in the 500 tournie at the last 2 tables, so what comes around, etc.

I immensely enjoyed this game (57 runners only though, but prize pool of 7100 plus scalps of 570 so not too shabby). Blinds were frozen for about an hour at the 2/4 level, then stayed at 2.5/5k for all but first 20 mins of final table, so plenty of play allowed with 450k or so chips in play.

Well played Dom. Delighted it was you. It was a real tough first table. After getting moved to your left I was feeling good and then got 'John Virgo'ed'

It'll be a happy Xmas in the 5star house then?

    Congratulations and Happy Christmas.
Sometimes the bad runs seem endless, then you're a genius. That's poker. We hate it and love it.
