Bought myself a new iPod photo ..

Have installed the softweare no probs for both the iPod & iTunes. Only thing is i dont want iTunes to start when i connect the iPod. I have tried turning this off in the iTunes config for my iPod but it never seems to remember the setting.

Every so often I get problems such as cannot update Ipod it is either readonly or cannot mount..

I have managed to get the iPod to mount if I uninstall iTunes but I would like to manage my own playlists and use it as a mobile disk every so often.

Anyone sort out this issue before to disable iTunes from loading up when you connect an Ipod?

MSCONFIG -> Services (Tick:"Hide all MS services" -> IPod helper, there may be another..) and Startup items (Identify the ipod software easily in the Path)...
Untick the box next to an item = this means it doesn't start when Windows starts - it does not remove the software.
Changes will take effect on reboot.
Changes can be undone by putting a tick next to item(s) and rebooting.

    To launch MSCONFIG:
Start -> Run -> MSCONFIG -> OK.. (And select the Services tab,and startup items tab as above..)

Also, please note in iTunes the option for updating playlists are manual and automatic ... change to Manual.. )
These should be found in: Edit -> Preferences..

if you turn of the ipod helper as far as i know it won't recognise when your ipod is connected. that's what happened when i had my ipod.

It's disabled on this machine and my iPod mini still synch's... [Although, in saying that: i very rarely update the music]
you could be right though *shrug*

Safest bet is to probably set it in iTunes to manually update, etc. and then use MSCONFIG if needs be..
