Came into a voucher for a computer store ....

Best midrange GPU €200 or less? Must be AGP, replacing a 9600XT.

Would you go for a 6600GT, 9800 Pro, (then flash to XT)

Would there be a big impact on frame rates / image quality for games like FEAR, DOOM3, HL2 etc?

Am I better of starting again with a PCI express MB / GPU?

    (Current setup 1Gb DDR2 RAM, 3Ghz Prescott, 9600XT)

As you already have a skt775 CPU and DDR2 RAM, I would strongly urge you to bite the bullet and buy a new mobo and a 7800GT

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=311506&cks=PRL

and a new mobo somthing like

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=313872&cks=PRL

If you do NOT intend to OC, otherwise you'll need a better board.

That will cost you 480 yoyos but will futureproof you for a good while.

The other option is to wait for the rumoured 7800GS which apparently will be coming out on AGP early next year.......but based on current top end AGP prices they may take the mick with the pricing as they know people have no choice.

Tis Socket 478 unfortunately, I should have gone for 775 but it was my first build and my knowledge was a little limited.

I'm thinking of getting a AGP 6800GS and this is the cheapestI've seen so far...http://www.hardwareversand.de/7VcseyHLDofmL-/1/articledetail.jsp?agid=279&aid=6144&lid=2

Are there any reviews out for the 6800gs agp version yet?

if you can stretch the budget a bit, then this http://www.jes-computer.de/product_info.php?pID=22631 is probably the best agp card you'll find

    HardOCP
    AnandTech
    ExtremeTech
Not sure if they're AGP or PCI-e, but it's the same performance anyway.

And OcUK sell an own-brand PCI-e 6800GS for £144 (approx €210) here without shipping.

Yeah you have, I have the X800GTO (PCI-E) and it's class, I couldn't imagine how classy the squared version is!

The Agp version of the 6800gs is still marked as pre-order on OcUk, I would get that when its out, as there has been great sucess overclocking the PCI-E version, most of them reach 6800 ultra speeds

I robbed my friends 6600gt to replace my 9800 pro for a short time, and wow, 1500 difference in 3d marks on a p4 2.8 @ 3.1 with a gig of ram.
