Now is the perfect time to buy and plant them. You should be able to get them in any decent garden centre, or you can buy them mail order - they're usually much cheaper this way.

I've used Future Forests in Cork before and have found them excellent on price and service, and the quality of their plants is very good.

When you plant your rasps, prepare a trench a foot deep and three feet wide, digging in lots of compost, manure etc. Plant the canes 15-18inches apart in the row, and each row should be 6 foot apart - rasps are greedy plants!

Then plant your rasp canes so that the roots are only about 3 inches below the soil. Straight after planting cut each cane down to about 9 inches above ground level.

There are two types of raspberries - summer fruiting and autumn fruiting. They do exactly what they say on the tin! It's a good idea to get both, that way you have rasps from July to November.

That's great thanks. Have heard of Future Forests but never been a customer. Was thinking of getting Summer and Autumn rasps, keep the fruit coming on longer.

Inspired by your post, we contacted FF and ordered 20 canes by phone (5 each of 2 summer and 2 autumn varieties). They are cheap and FF have an amazing web site. It is 12euro for 10 and postage is reasonable.
