It used to be about the art.

    thanks everyone!

I went out last night and celebrated a bit..it really is such a wonderful feeling :)

The stuff I have in the shop is all abstract art...I dont have any pics online just yet but I do keep photos of all my work in an album. I may put them online after the new year.

I also do other paintings as request,
Ive done a painting of Spongebob and disneys goofy and one lady requested a painting of a black jesus...
I told her, well I can try but I never even painted him white before! lol turned out ok though :)

I never intended on selling my stuff, I used to paint for me and hang them in my office till one day a lady came in because someone told her about the artwork and she bought one...that was 3 years ago.
When I left that office I just kept my stuff at home until I met this shop owner and she asked to see my stuff and then wanted to hang it in her store...I was well chuffed when she asked to do that ...and now
the owner of the shop wants to open her shop on a sunday just to do a showing of my work and she is going to advertise all no charge to me :)
I told her that Id like to do that sometime early in the new year...she wanted to do it right away but I amnt ready yet :)

    Im so excited!

well that isnt the point is it...the fact that someone wants to hang my art in thier home is what its about.
I didnt charge at all for my family members that wanted to hang my stuff ofcourse :)
Also, I charge according to size and time put into it...it was only a 8x10 size
I have another in the shop going for $145...we'll see what happens ;)

Maybe someday if I am "discovered" I can charge for what I really think they are worth :)

congrats from me too, BEAT, good work, know the feelling, it just can't be described, the money is just secondary in this case

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Le Rack

How much do you guys paint? I love painting and it takes a long time to finish a piece and I don't think I'd ever be able to let something go that I had put so much time and effort into...

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 5,945 ✭✭✭BEAT

It isnt easy to let one go,
Infact I priced my favorites rather high because secretly I dont want it to sell lol
sounds weird I know but its like selling apart of myself...
I still miss the very first painting I ever sold..It was my greatest creation I still believe :(

Exactly! I don't understand it. I jsut finished one that I am really proud of cuz it's my first big complete work that just popped out of my head, I do a lot of poster design for bands but this is just a painting and I don't hink I could ever let it go!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,857 ✭✭✭✭Dave!

You should get the address of whoever buys it, and ask them can you pop along and have a look at it again! :D I'm sure they wouldn't mind :)

    congratulations :D

    thanks everyone!

I actually do get thier address because I mail them a certificate of authenticity and a thank you card. I keep the address to notify them of when I am having the showing as well.
I also take thier picture with the painting...The shop owner took her picture for me I left a camera.

    I think I got everything covered :)
